The Pairing Process
How are mentees paired with mentors? We strive to consistently create quality matches to ensure successful mentoring relationships.
We believe there is no such thing as a perfect "match," and we are confident that each of our Expert Mentors brings stellar implementation of our model, deep training through Mentor Academy, and professional judgment to support any mentee or adult learner.
What We Ask Mentees
Modern Classrooms Project pairs mentees and mentors using a few key criteria such as:
their subject content area
their grade level
their learning management system (LMS)
accessibility or language needs
if they are with a partnership or scholarship region
additional answers in their enrollment and application forms.
What We Ask Mentors
To support a strong mentee/mentor match, we pair based on:
your stated capacity or maximum number of mentees from your mentor capacity/information survey responses
your subject/content area, grade level, and LMS
your fluency or working capacity in non-English languages
the number of total Mentorship Program enrollees in a given session (sometimes mentors request more mentees than we can offer)
your willingness or comfort level to mentor educators outside of your specific content/level/LMS
your responsiveness (two business days) to confirm your mentee pairing request via email.
In our experience, we have found that mentees enjoy and gain value from working with mentors who bring diverse perspectives. If a mentee or mentor is not comfortable with the pairing, we will work with you to make a switch.
Frequently Asked Pairing Questions
When will I find out when I'm paired?
When will I find out when I'm paired?
Typically, about three or four weeks before the program start date, our team will begin the pairing process. This is an iterative and ongoing process through the program start date.
You will receive a pairing notification email. Pairings can be made as early as 3-4 weeks ahead of the program start date or as close as the program start date. We often see that educators enroll closer to the program start, depending on their district recruitment timelines.
Once paired, you can expect to receive an introductory welcome email from our team connecting you with each mentee individually. This email can come between 1-2 weeks before the program starts or as soon as you are paired, closer to the program start date or just after.

We love the eager excitement of our mentors! MCP teams are always recruiting to enroll more educators into our programs. While we will do our best to meet your requested number of mentees, we may not be able to honor your maximum capacity as this is dependent on the total enrollment for a session. Our summer sessions are the busiest times, so you can anticipate a higher mentee caseload in our May and June sessions.
For new mentors who recently completed Mentor Academy, we will pair you with 1-3 mentees as you ease into the mentoring role.
We're always recruiting more educators to join our Mentorship Program, so you can help us spread the word!
