Offering mentees specific, actionable, and timely feedback is at the core of a strong mentoring relationship. Review the step-by-step guide and FAQ section below for submission guidance.
Accessing & Grading the Submission
π‘ Review this quick guide for a quick checklist on submission scoring.
You'll receive an email notification when a mentee has formally submitted an assignment for review.
To view and grade the submission, login to Moodle, and scroll to the "Grade Me" block (right-hand menu) to your mentee's name and specific submission.
The submission should include a link to the mentee's Course Companion (or if prior to Summer 2024, the Feedback Journal). You can find the Course Companion in the Moodle course platform "Grade Me" block or in your mentor activity hub ("Active Mentees" tab). Please do NOT create your own copy of a Course Companion - let us know if you are not able to access this after reaching out to your mentee.
Be sure to check Question #1 AND Question #2 (optional files and supporting resources). Review any supporting files or resources your mentee has shared in Question #2 and include feedback on these.
Open the Course Companion (using the Table of Contents menu) to click to the appropriate submission.
Score the submission criteria for mastery. "Must Do" components are required. "Should Do" or "Aspire To Do" components are optional, but if submitted, please review and offer feedback.
π¨ If links are not accessible, mark the submission as a "0" in Moodle. Do not submit an activity entry at this point. Email the mentee to request access and wait for them to resubmit.
If the submission meets all mastery criteria, select "Mastered" in the Course Companion next to each criterion, or "Not Yet Mastered (Revise + Resubmit)."
Complete the mentee's feedback, sharing strengths, areas to improve, and next steps. Refer back to the Guiding Principles of Effective Feedback. Explicitly guide mentees with what they can do to achieve mastery and extend their understanding of the model.
β‘οΈ Navigate back to the submission in Moodle. Score the submission with a "0" if not yet mastered or "1" if it meets mastery criteria in the "Points" field. First, find the "Grade Me" block on your home page (right-hand menu), navigate to the appropriate submission, find your mentee's name, and click the grey checkmark to open the submission.
Then, within the submission, enter your score of "0" (Not Yet Mastered) or "1" (Complete) after the final question.
Tag the mentee directly within the Course Companion (Google comment) OR reshare the Course Companion directly with the mentee OR email your mentee to notify them you've shared feedback. After you have completed your feedback in the Course Companion and entered the grade in Moodle, notify your mentee that you've offered feedback, whether you have approved the submission or requested a resubmission. This is an important step to notify your mentee of their submission status. Mentees will NOT receive a notification if you requested revisions, only if the submission is approved.
Submit an activity entry for your time spent reviewing!
If approved (1), select "Approving[submission name, i.e., Mastery Plan] Submission"
If not yet mastered (0), select "Waiting for revisions/redoing of [submission name, i.e., Mastery Plan]".
π¨ Please do NOT accept revisions via email or solely within the Course Companion - mentees must log in to Moodle and select "Redo submission."This is critical to ensure our team can track mentee progress and confirm your time entries. You will be notified when your mentee resubmits with revisions.Have a different question on submissions? ‡οΈ
