Take a look at commonly asked questions from mentees.

If you have additional questions, first, tap our community of Expert Mentors in #mentors-only. You can also reach out to us at mentorship@modernclassrooms.org.

Can my mentee change sessions? Will I be their mentor in the future?

Mentees can make changes to their enrollment up until the day before the session start date, with caveats. This means that if you are paired already, you might be alerted to a change of status in your mentee's enrollment.

Mentees have access to a change/drop form linked in their enrollment confirmation email. Learn about our change/drop policy.

Mentees CAN change sessions if:

  • The session has not yet started.

  • If they request a hardship exception. In the change/drop form, mentees can report a hardship to change into a session or unenroll with no questions asked.

  • If it is their first time changing their enrollment. Mentees cannot change their enrollment more than once. If a mentee enrolled for the first time and has never changed sessions, they may be able to switch to a future session.

Mentees may NOT be able to change enrollment if:

  • They are a scholarship recipient. Due to the nature of the scholarship investment, scholarships to the Mentorship Program are generally not transferable.

  • If they have already changed their enrollment or switched sessions in the past. Mentees can only change sessions once. If a mentee enrolled in a prior session (e.g., May 2024) and changed to a future session (e.g., October 2024), they cannot change sessions again.

If you are already paired and a mentee switches their enrollment, we cannot guarantee they can work with you as their mentor in a future session.

If your mentee asks further about changing sessions, you can always direct them to mentorship@modernclassrooms.org.

How and when can mentees access the course?

As soon as mentees are paired, they will have access to the course and can begin working and submitting before the official session start date.

Mentees will also be able to continue accessing the course following the end of the session date. The Extension policy will still apply, but mentees will continue working with the mentor after the session end date. If at any time you cannot support a mentee, before, during, or after a session, please email mentorship@modernclassrooms.org so the mentee can be re-paired.

My mentee can't login to the course platform.

You can share the forgot password link. Your mentee’s login email is the email listed in your mentor activity hub.

If your mentee continues to have issues logging in, please have them reach out to us at mentorship@modernclassrooms.org.

When are the suggested submission deadlines? When are live events?

Log in to the Moodle course platform to check out the "Events and Submission Calendar" for both session-specific submission deadlines and live event offerings.

Mentors and mentees can see this linked in the right-hand menu under "Helpful Resources" and "Personalized Supports."

What are "Work with Us" sessions? When are they?

The MCP team regularly hosts live events to dedicate time for mentees to work through submissions and get their questions answered live. We reach out to mentors who indicated an interest in leading these virtual events from the Mentor Capacity Survey. Mentors receive a stipend to lead these events and answer mentee questions in breakout rooms.

To see our scheduled "Work with Us" sessions, check out the Events and Submission Calendar linked in the course platform. Typically, these are every few weeks in the school year, including on the weekends, and occasionally throughout the summer sessions.

My mentee wants a certificate of completion.

Mentees should automatically receive a certificate of completion once they have met all requirements of the online course. Mentees can access certificates within the course by visiting this page.

If your mentee is unable to access their certificate, please ask them to email us at mentorship@modernclassrooms.org.

A mentee flagged a question in Moodle on their submission. What do I do?

The flagging option in Moodle, the course platform, allows the student user to make a note for themselves about questions in an assignment. Instructors (mentors) aren't able to remove flags, but they don't have any bearing on the score of the module submission.

If your mentee wants to remove the flag, they can navigate to the question on the attempt and click the 'Remove Flag' link to the left of the question box. Here is a screenshot of what that would look like.

My mentee asked about PD/graduate credits. What are they eligible to receive?

Once an educator completes the Mentorship Program, they should automatically see various options for PD/graduate credits linked at the top of their course platform in Moodle. For more information, reference this website.

Options include:

  • New York State CTLE hours

  • 3 non-degree credits from CSU Pueblo

  • CEUs from George Mason University

  • Digital Promise micro-credentials.

These may change from time to time, so mentees can reference the links in the course platform to see what is uniquely available to them.

What is "implementation support"? Does my mentee have access to it?

Educators from specific partnership districts/schools may have access to additional support based on their partnership agreement.

You might hear mentees mention a "Community of Practice" (CoPs) or "implementation support." The MCP team partners with schools/districts to offer:

  • "Community of Practice" (CoP) - these are typically hour-long gatherings (virtual or in-person) or workshops to share learnings, experiences, and examples of implementation of our model.

"Implementation Support" - select mentees may receive partnership-specific supports, such as classroom visits, invitations to specific MCP & partner events, workshops/events, or professional learning days. These events deepen your mentees' practice of the model and create community-focused discussions to ask questions and learn more as they implement.

My mentee mentioned a stipend. Tell me more about this.

Educators from specific partnerships or scholarship regions may be eligible to receive a monetary stipend upon completion of the program (when all submissions are complete).

Stipends are disbursed to eligible recipients on a monthly basis through a gift card platform, Tremendous. If your mentee inquires about their stipend, please direct them to stipends@modernclassrooms.org.
