Linking projects to clients

Link a project to a client in Modge so tracked hours flow into client invoices and profitability reports. How to relink, unlink, and what happens to past time entries.

You link a project to a client to group related work, give the client’s viewers access to all their projects at once, and roll the project up into client billing.

Who can do this

Owner only.

Linking at project creation

The Add project form has a Client field. Pick an existing client or click Create new to add one inline.

Linking after creation

  1. Open Projects

  2. Click the project

  3. Find the Client field on the project header

  4. Pick a client from the dropdown

  5. Save

Linking from the client page

You can also see and manage a client’s projects from the client page:

  1. Open Clients

  2. Click the client

  3. Open the Projects tab

  4. Click Bulk add to link multiple projects at once

Unlinking

To unlink, change the project’s client to “None” or remove the project from the client’s project list. The project remains, just without a client link.

What changes when you link

  • The project appears in the client’s project list

  • Client viewers automatically get access to the project

  • Client billing can roll up the project’s tracked time and revenue into an invoice for the client

  • Reports filtered by client now include this project

A project can only have one client

A project links to at most one client. If you need to share work across two clients, create separate projects.

A client can have many projects

There is no limit. A long-running customer might have ten projects across multiple years, all linked to the same client.
