How to make performance reviews amazing with coaching
Organisations that work with More Happi are seeing powerful results by asking their teams to have a coaching session before they have their review.
Employees arrive with more considered thoughts and ideas for the future, have more clarity on what they want to achieve and have even thought about how to make it happen.
Managers (those giving the performance review) should also be encouraged to talk to a coach beforehand: 'Managers arrive at the conversation with structure, clarity and empathy'.
Make it happen:
Time: Takes 10-15 mins
When review time is approaching, 3 weeks before..
Ask each team member to book a More Happi coaching session before their review date (copy and paste the template below and share via Slack or Email).
They should tell the coach: “My review is coming and I want to explore what I’d like to get out of it”.
Notice the difference in how effective reviews are.
Note: Managers can also work with coaches. If they are concerned about how to handle a specific review. They can discuss options and make a plan with a coach.

Hi [team] as we prepare for performance review time we’d love you to take the opportunity to get more out of it for your own career growth. Can you please book a coaching session approx 2-3 weeks in advance of your performance review date to help you to prepare?
What to take to the coach: “I’d like to use this session to help me to prepare and get my thoughts straight for my upcoming performance review”
Before your coaching session, consider the following for discussion during your session.
- How clear are you about the outcome you want from your review?
- How confident are you in your strategy for communicating the most important things in your review?
- What messages would you like to convey clearly and professionally?
- What key areas do you want feedback on?
