This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to get started with MotionTools as a Driver.
Overview
Have the following prerequisites been met?
You are invited as a driver by an Admin. If you were invited, you should have received an invitation email.
You have a smartphone (iPhone or Android) with an internet connection and iOS 15.0 / Android 7.0 or later.
You have access to an iOS or Android phone with access to the App Store or Google Play Store.
Step 1: Download the MotionTools app

Step 2: Complete the sign-up
Open the app and enter your Company ID. You can find this in the invitation email.
Sign up with the email address that you were invited to. You can find this information in the invitation email as well. When signing up for the first time you need to set a password.
Please click the Sign up button to complete your registration for the first time.
Please click the Sign in button to log in if you already have credentials to the account.
Complete your profile and allow the app to track your device location in the background. We need this to show the exact location to dispatchers in the dashboard, and to customers for an accurate ETA to the next stop so as to improve the customer experience.
Step 3: Go online
Go online by sliding the slider at the top of the screen to the right. Then define the Vehicle to go online with, meaning the one you will be driving today. Depending on how the business you work for is operating, you might only see one option to choose from or multiple.
If you can choose from multiple vehicles, the choice defines which tours you are eligible for and are visible in the app. If you’ve chosen a bigger vehicle, such as ‘Car’, tours for smaller vehicles such as ‘Scooter' can also be visible to you.
Step 4: Find tours to start
Now that you’re online, you’ll be able to see, accept, and start tours in the Home, Upcoming, or Requests tabs. Depending on how the business you work for is operating or what your current location is, you might not see all of the tabs explained below. This ensures that you only see what is relevant for your workday.
In the Home tab, you’ll see tours that you can pick and start directly. They are overdue or should be done asap. Once you’ve started a tour, it also appears in the Home tab.
The Requests tab shows tours that are scheduled for more than 60 minutes into the future or the next day. You can accept and claim them, and by doing so, the tours will move to the Upcoming tab.
The Upcoming tab shows all scheduled tours claimed by you or the ones an admin has assigned to you. You can only start scheduled tours a certain time before the scheduled time (e.g., 30 minutes; this depends on the settings your manager chose). The scheduled time is the expected time you should be at the first stop.
If you don’t see any tours yet, make sure that you are online in a service area you operate in. Otherwise, please reach out to your admin for assistance.
Step 5: Start a tour and navigate to the first stop
Start a tour by clicking on Start tour.
You are now on the way to the first stop of the tour. Click on Navigate to open your favorite navigation app, then start the turn-by-turn navigation.
After arriving at the location, go back to the MotionTools app. Slide the slider Slide when arrived to the right.
Step 6: Carry out the task
Move up the card to see relevant information about the task you have to do at the stop. For example, you might need to drop something off, pick something up, or perform a maintenance task on a vehicle. This depends on what kind of services the operator you work for offers.
If you are working with packages, please refer to the Deliver packages via the Driver App article for more detailed information.
If you want to see details about further stops in this tour, click on Full tour details.
Step 7: Complete the stop
After finishing your tasks, slide the slider Slide to complete stop. You might need to give a ‘proof of completion’ if this feature is enabled for the account.
After finishing the stop, the MotionTools app proceeds to show you the next stop in line. Do the same process as above for the next stop(s). Once you’ve finished all stops of this tour you’ll see the tour finished screen.
Done! 🎉 You finished your first tour!
Changing the app language
Read the How can I change the language of the Driver App? article.
Select a preferred navigation app and vehicle
You have the option to switch to a preferred 3rd party navigation app (i.e. Google Maps) or switch to a preferred vehicle while executing the tour. For this, open the MotionTools app and go to the side menu located on the top left of your screen. Click on Settings > Navigation > Select your preferred navigation app.
Besides Google Maps and Apple Maps, we also support Waze. Make sure that you have the external navigation app installed on your phone and repeat the steps above.
