Canon Mirrorless - Full Frame and APS-C

Mirrorless cameras are the new kid on the block when it comes to digital cameras, they’re lighter, smaller and sometimes more powerful than their DSLR counterparts. Canon has two mirrorless ranges, the first features APS-C sensors and is titled the Canon EOS M. The second, and most recent mirrorless range from Canon is their EOS R range, which features full-frame sensors.

Canon EOS M

The Canon EOS M was the first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera made by Canon. The M stands for “mobility”, which is in keeping with the small form factors of these cameras. Canon developed a new lens range exclusively for the EOS M bodies, titled the EF-M. However, if you don’t want to purchase any EF-M lenses, you can still use your Canon EF and EF-S lenses by the way of the Canon EF-EOS M Mount Adapter.

Canon EOS R

The Canon EOS R, released in late 2018, is Canon's first full-frame mirrorless camera. The EOS R and RP (a smaller and lighter equivalent of the R) both feature full-frame Dual Pixel CMOS sensors and as of 13 February 2019 had the world's fastest autofocus at 0.05 seconds. The recently released R5 and R6 further expand the EOS R range, with the R5 boasting 8K video. Canon developed the new RF mount lens range and as with the EOS M models, your Canon EF or EF-S lenses can be used on any R body with an EF-EOS R Mount Adapter.
