Cleaning Lenses & Cameras
Keeping your camera and lenses clean is an essential part of maintaining your equipment. Regular cleaning helps prevent dust, dirt, or fungus from building up- all of which can affect image quality or cause electronic connection issues between your camera and lenses.
For routine cleaning, it’s best to use:
A microfiber cloth (for gentle wiping)
A rocket blower (for removing loose dust and particles)
Lens cleaning fluid (used sparingly for stubborn marks)
Avoid using household cloths, tissues, or compressed air cans, as these can scratch or damage delicate surfaces.
Lenses
Dust and smudges can easily collect on the front or rear elements of your lens.
Here’s how to safely clean them:
Use a rocket blower first. Hold the lens facing downwards so gravity helps remove dust as you blow across the surface.
Wipe gently with a microfiber cloth. Use light, circular motions to remove any remaining marks.
Apply lens cleaning fluid if needed. Dampen a small section of the cloth (never the lens directly) with a drop of lens fluid, and wipe again in gentle circles.
Note: Always check for grit or hard particles before wiping. Rubbing these against the glass can cause scratches.
Cameras
Cleaning Contacts
The electronic contacts on your camera and lens allow them to communicate. If these contacts become dusty or dirty, you may experience autofocus or connection issues.
Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to gently wipe the contacts on both the lens and camera body.
Never use liquid cleaners, as moisture can damage the electronics.
Camera Sensors & Mirror
Your camera’s sensor and mirror are highly delicate. We recommend cleaning these only with a rocket blower to remove light dust or debris.
Do not touch the sensor or mirror directly, and avoid using cleaning fluids or cloths. If you notice marks that won’t come off with a blower, it’s best to have the sensor professionally cleaned by a technician.
At MPB, all cameras are inspected before being listed for sale. If any dust or debris is present that affects image quality, it will be clearly noted in the listing. However, wear or dust that develops after purchase is not covered under MPB’s warranty.
Preventing Fungus & Moisture
Proper storage is key to keeping your camera and lenses in great condition. Dust, moisture, and temperature changes can lead to fungus growth, corrosion, and internal fogging over time, especially if your equipment is stored for long periods or in humid environments.
You can find further information regarding Fungus & Moisture here.
Storage
Camera and lens fungus thrives in warm, humid conditions. To help prevent it:
Store your gear in a dry, cool place. Avoid damp or areas with poor ventilation.
Use silica gel or a dehumidifier. Place moisture-absorbing silica gel packets in your camera bag or storage case, and replace them regularly.
Keep airflow consistent. Occasionally open your storage bag or cabinet to let fresh air circulate.
Avoid sealing damp equipment. Always make sure your gear is completely dry before storing it, even small traces of moisture can lead to fungus growth.
