What grab bar diameter do I need?

Typical ADA bathroom grab bars are available in 2 diameters.

We often classify our 1-1/4" diameter grab bars as residential and our 1-1/2" diameter grab bars as commercial. Our more elaborate designer bathroom grab bar collections are only available in a 1-1/4" diameter.

An assistive device with a diameter smaller than 1-1/4" is considered a grip and is not classified as a grab bar. A grip offers a much more limited amount of security, reduced anchoring possibilities and is only available in a length of 9". Grips are not ADA approved, and we do not usually offer them as an option with our bath safety installations.
