Manage Global Tags
Global Tags help your team organize coverage more consistently across Muck Rack. With Global Tag Manager, anyone in your organization can create shared tags and categories, then apply those tags to articles in Coverage Reports to segment coverage, track themes, and support more precise reporting. In this first release, tags are managed centrally and can be applied to Coverage Report articles.
NOTE: In this release, tag filtering is not available in the Global Tag Manager tables, and tags cannot yet be used to filter analytics dashboards or widgets.
Exclusive to Select Packages:
Global Tag Manager is included for Agency Starter, Agency Standard, Agency Premier, Brand Starter, Brand Standard, Brand Premier, and legacy pre-package customers.
Access Global Tag Manager
Global Tag Manager is the central place to create and maintain tags for your organization. You can open it from your organization settings, and related tag entry points across the product also link back to it.
From the navigation bar, select your profile icon, then Settings.
Under Organization Settings, go to the Global Tags section.
Select Manage Global Tags to open the Global Tags page.
Create a global tag
Use global tags to create a shared tagging structure for your team. Tags are visible across your organization, and tag names must be unique within your organization. If you do not assign a category, the tag is added to Uncategorized by default.
Open Global Tag Manager.
Select the Create Tag button in the top right corner.
Enter a name in Tag Name.
Optional: Add a short description in Short Description.
Optional: Select a category. If you skip this step, Muck Rack adds the tag to Uncategorized.
Select Create.
NOTE: Tag names can be up to 35 characters and must be unique. Descriptions can be up to 225 characters. If you enter a duplicate name, Muck Rack shows the error message Tag name already in use.
Edit a global tag
You can update a tag name or description directly in the tags table. Changes save right away and update everywhere that tag is used.
Open Global Tag Manager.
In the Tags table, select the tag name or description you want to update.
Enter your changes.
Select Enter or select outside the field to save.
Archive or Restore a Tag
Archiving removes a tag from all associated items, but keeps it available for restoration for 90 days. If you restore the tag during that window, it is reapplied to the items it was previously assigned to.
Archive a single tag
In Global Tag Manager, find the tag you want to archive.
Select the Archive icon in the far right column.
Review the message, then select the Archive button to confirm.
Restore an archived tag
Change the Status filter to Archived.
Select the Restore icon in the far right column.
Choose a category (including Uncategorized if needed).
Select the Restore button.
IMPORTANT: Archived tags are automatically deleted after 90 days if they are not restored.
Archive multiple tags at once
If you need to clean up several active tags, you can archive them in bulk from the tags table. Archived tags cannot be selected for bulk actions.
Open Global Tag Manager.
Select the checkboxes next to the active tags you want to archive.
In the blue Actions bar, select Archive.
Review the message, then select the Archive button to confirm.
Create a tag category
Categories help organize related tags and control how they appear in tag selection menus. Every tag belongs to one category, and Uncategorized is the default category that cannot be deleted.
Open Global Tag Manager.
Select the Categories tab.
Select the Create Category button in the top right.
Enter a name for the category.
Select Create.
Delete or Move a Category
When you delete a category, you must decide what happens to the tags inside it. You can either archive all tags in that category or move them to another category.
Open the Categories tab in Global Tag Manager.
Select the trash can icon in the far right corner or select the checkbox(es) next to the category (or categories) you want to delete, then select Delete from the blue Action bar that appears.
Choose one of these options:
If you choose to move tags, select the destination category.
Confirm the action to delete the category (or categories).
NOTE: The Uncategorized category cannot be deleted or selected for bulk actions.
Apply global tags to articles in a Coverage Report
In this release, global tags can be assigned to articles inside Coverage Reports. Tags appear in a dropdown grouped by category, with categories listed alphabetically and tags sorted alphabetically within each category. Category labels are not selectable. The same structure appears when you bulk-add tags to multiple articles.
Open your Coverage Report and navigate to the Articles tab.
Open an article for editing, or select multiple articles for a bulk action using the checkboxes then select the Tag button.
Use the Select Tags dropdown to choose one or more tags.
Be sure to select the Add Tag(s) button before you exit the window.
