  1. Select your Avatar in the top right corner, then Manage Integrations.

Shows the Account dropdown menu expanded with the 'Manage integrations' option circled in red

  2. In the Google Analytics (GA) section, check the current connection status. If your status is Not Connected, select the 'Connect workspace' link to set up your connection. If you already have a GA instance connected and want to add another, select the 'Add or edit account' link.

Set Up A New Google Analytics Connection

Follow the steps below if the status for your Google Analytics Integration shows as 'Not Connected.'

  1. Under Google Analytics, select Connect Account

NOTE: If you had a previous Google Analytics account connected, select 'Remove' next to your existing, expired instances. Select 'OK' when prompted to remove the connection. This action permanently removes all data associated with your previous GA instance from your dashboards. This action cannot be undone.

Shows the Integrations page with a 'Not Connected' status listed under Google Analytics and an arrow pointing to the 'Connect account' link

  2. Select the Add Google Analytics Account button.

  4. Select your new GA instance and GA4 properties.

Shows the 'Connect your account' page with dropdown fields for 'Account,' 'Property,' and 'View'

  5. Select Save and Done. You'll need to update widgets that used the old GA data from any previously connected instances. In the Configure widget settings, head to Google Analytics Settings, then change to your new GA4 data. Repeat for any other widgets to begin using GA4 data.

Shows the 'Connect your account' page with the 'Save' and 'Done' buttons circled in red at the bottom

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Question

Answer

What security permissions am I granting Muck Rack when configuring the Google Analytics integration?

The Google Analytics integration uses a read-only API to view data—by authenticating your Google Analytics account, you give Muck Rack permission to access the data available to you in Google Analytics and to pull in data from the specific account, property, and view you select in Muck Rack.

Muck Rack does not have any permission to edit any data in your Google Analytics instance.

How many Google Analytics accounts can I integrate with Muck Rack?

To better understand how customers are integrating multiple Google Analytics accounts and ensure the feature's reliability, we’re first launching with the capability to add up to 3 Google Analytics accounts.

We will continuously monitor and track feedback to see if there’s a need to increase this in the future.

What do Account, Property, and View mean when connecting my Google Account?

An Analytics account is a way to name and organize how you track one or more properties (e.g., websites, mobile apps, point-of-sale devices) using Analytics. Each Analytics user has access to at least one account, either one they created themselves or one they were given access to by someone else. In each Analytics account, at least one property (such as a website) is being tracked.

  • Property: A website, mobile application, blog, etc, with a unique tracking ID. A Google Analytics account can contain one or more properties.

  • View: A view is a set of specifications for tracking traffic on a single domain. For example, if you were setting up views to track "example.com," you might want: One view for traffic to store.example.com, one view for U.S. visitors, and one view whose reports can be viewed only by certain people.

Why can't I see my Google Analytics instance or properties when integrating?

This could be due to many reasons. Please check your Google Analytics instance to ensure you have full access to view all properties and instances tied to the email address on your Muck Rack account that you are integrating with.

If you are still having issues, please contact our Support team via the chat widget in the bottom right corner of this page and select 'Send us a message.'

Why does it appear as though articles are missing at the very beginning or end of the selected timeframe within my widget?

This is due to timezone limitations within the application that will be resolved later in 2024.

What is the difference between the previous GA3 integration and GA4?

GA4 offers more advanced features and better integration with other Google products. It is designed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of user behavior across platforms and devices, including mobile apps and websites.

Why am I unable to connect my Google Analytics 3 (GA3) account?

Muck Rack has sunset the support for GA3, per Google’s upgrade requirements. Due to this, you must connect a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) account to use in Muck Rack.

You will need to update any widgets you previously used GA3 on once your GA4 instance is connected.

Why am I being asked to reconnect my Google Analytics integration?

Google has sunset users to transition from the previous Google Analytics 3 (GA3) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) that was initially launched in June 2023 and as a result, GA3 is being sunset altogether.

Users will go through the same flow (located in the Set Up Google Analytics Integration section above) to add in their new GA4 instance via the Integrations page.

What do Account, Property, and View mean when connecting my Google Account?

In Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the concepts of Account, Property, and View have evolved compared to the previous version of Google Analytics.

View” is replaced with “Data Stream.”

  • Data Stream: Lives within a property, and is the source of data from an app or website.
