Broadcast Clips
Broadcast clips are short segments or excerpts from television or radio broadcasts shared and showcased within the platform's interface. These clips typically encapsulate key moments, news segments, interviews, or discussions aired on various broadcast media outlets. Muck Rack users can curate and share these clips.
Access to Broadcast Clips is a paid add-on feature; please contact your Customer Success Manager if you would like to upgrade your subscription.
Find Broadcast Clips
The Broadcast Search feature enables you to search for broadcast content, including television and radio. You can search by date range, locations, networks, programs, and more to discover relevant broadcast content and gain insights into media appearances, interviews, or news coverage.
Select the Broadcast tab on the Search tool.
Enter your keywords, then press Enter or select the Search icon.
Browse through the search results to find relevant clips. Select an individual broadcast clip to access that clip’s playback and closed-caption text.
Still can't find a clip? It could be because:
The clip was aired in a broadcast market that is not available in Muck Rack.
Closed-caption text was incorrectly parsed or omitted a portion of the broadcast segment.
There was an outage in the broadcast stream for a market or location.
Playback issues may occur due to limitations or errors within TVEyes, the third-party service that powers Muck Rack’s broadcast content. In such cases, you can still save the transcript using the "Add to Coverage Reports" option.

Broadcast Search Filters
Filter | Function |
Date Range | Lets you specify a specific timeframe for searching broadcast content. Setting a date range allows you to narrow your search results to content aired or broadcasted within that period. |

Networks | Filter broadcast content based on specific television networks. You can select one or multiple networks to refine your search results and find aired content on those networks. |
Stations | Search for broadcast content from specific television stations. |
Programs | Filter broadcast content based on specific television programs or shows. You can search for content associated with particular program titles or keywords to find episodes or segments from those programs, helping you find content related to your preferred television shows or specific program segments. |
Search Surrounding Clips
When inside a clip, you can access the Search Surrounding Clips feature to explore related or contextually relevant broadcast clips based on a specific clip you have already found or are viewing. To locate and save the rest of a broadcast segment, follow these steps:
Open the broadcast clip you are viewing in Muck Rack.
Select the 'Search Surrounding Clips' button located in the upper-right corner of the clip viewer.
Review the results to find the adjacent segments. These will include the clips that aired directly before and after the current segment.
Check the timestamps to identify the segment(s) that contain the continuation of your content.
Open the relevant segment(s) and create a new clip by selecting and saving the portion you need.
Locating Full Segments
Broadcast clips in Muck Rack are delivered in fixed 10-minute segments by the broadcast provider. This means that a single clip may not always contain the full segment you need, such as an entire interview or appearance. However, by using the 'Search Surrounding Clips' feature, you can locate and save the rest of the content to piece together the full segment.
Broadcast Clip Limitations
Muck Rack provides tools for managing broadcast clips, but there are specific limitations to be aware of:
Editing and Combining Clips: Muck Rack does not allow you to combine multiple broadcast clips into one or edit how they are cut. Clips appear exactly as provided by Muck Rack’s broadcast tracking service and cannot be modified beyond trimming within the provided segment.
Extending Clips: Broadcast clips are delivered in fixed 10-minute segments and cannot be extended beyond this duration. If the content you need spans multiple segments, you can use the 'Search Surrounding Clips' feature to locate and save adjacent segments. You can also create smaller sub-clips within any 10-minute segment if needed.
Adding Manual Clips: Due to copyright restrictions, Muck Rack does not support the addition of manual broadcast clips from other sources. All broadcast monitoring and clips are provided through Muck Rack’s broadcast tracking service.
Save and Share Broadcast Clips
Shareable links are generated from Muck Rack’s Clip Viewer, allowing you to easily share a clip with others even if they do not have access to Muck Rack.
Select Play to view the Broadcast clip.
Choose the Start and End time, then select Save Clip and Finish.
Go to Monitoring > Saved Broadcast Clips.
Choose the clip, and select Copy Link in the top-right corner.
Note: Use the controls beneath the video to trim the clip to your desired length before saving. This ensures the video and transcript are retained, even after the original expires.
Add Clips to A Coverage Report
Once you find an ideal Broadcast Clip, add it to any Coverage Report either from your search results or your Saved Broadcast Clips page.
Add Clips From Your Search Results
From your Broadcast Search results, select the clips you'd like to add to a Coverage Report using the checkboxes.
Select Add to Coverage Report from the Action bar, then select the report you'd like to add the clips to.
NOTE: If you need to create a new report, enter a name in the search bar, then select Create New.
Add Clips From Your Saved Broadcast Clips
If you'd like to ensure that the video and transcript for broadcast clips are retained, you will need to add clips from your Saved Broadcast Clips to a Coverage Report.
Go to Monitoring > Saved Broadcast Clips.
Select a clip, then select Add to Coverage Reports at the top of the page.
Select the report you'd like to add the clips to. If you need to create a new report, enter a name in the search bar, then select Create New.
Clip Availability
Broadcast clips may become unavailable due to expiration policies set by TVEyes, the third-party provider. These policies ensure compliance with licensing agreements and include a 30-day limit for audio and video and a 90-day limit for transcripts.
By default, broadcast clips that are not saved to your Saved Broadcast Clips will expire according to the information in the chart below:

Saving a broadcast clip on your account ensures continued access to a clip's video, audio, and transcript. Clips are saved to the cloud so anyone can view them via the Saved Broadcast Clip's URL.
NOTE: If you add Broadcast clips to your Coverage Report without saving them, the clip retains only the transcript and clip data after 90 days. All other unsaved clips retain the video and audio 30 days from airing and the transcript 90 days from airing.

Broadcast Metrics
National and Local Audience
When you search for Broadcast clips on Muck Rack, each clip will list audience metrics beneath the clip's air date:
The local audience number represents viewers in a specific market area
The national audience number reflects total viewers across the country
NOTE: National audience numbers may vary based on the network, time zone, and air time of the program. A national audience number indicates that the program airs in multiple markets, not that a specific broadcast was aired nationwide.
National and Local Ad Value
When you search for Broadcast clips on Muck Rack, clips will list advertising value equivalency (AVE) metrics beneath the clip's air date. This metric is provided by TVEyes.
Ad value highlights the impact of earned media, where the cost is $0 but the value is still significant. Ad cost refers to the expense of running a 30-second spot in a specific market.
To calculate Broadcast AVE, audience metrics are combined with local broadcast TV pricing data, expressed as Cost Per Point (CPP). The formula for ad cost is:
Ad Cost = CPP * Share Points Earned
To determine ad value, a multiplier—based on customer or industry preferences—is applied, reflecting the perceived impact of the advertisement.

Why does the clip in Muck Rack look shorter than the live broadcast? | Clips come over in 10 minute segments from our broadcast provider, TVEyes. We're not able to alter them, other than saving a smaller clip within the 10-minute segment.

If a segment shows up as two clips, is there a way to combine them or do I need to send two separate shareable links? | In Muck Rack, you cannot combine two clips. You would need to generate a shareable link for each clip and send them separately. |
How can I share or download broadcast clips in Muck Rack? | Muck Rack provides tools for saving and sharing broadcast clips, but it does not support direct downloads of these clips. Instead, you can generate shareable links to allow others to view the clips without needing a Muck Rack account. |
