Coverage Report Spike Notifications
Leveraging proprietary algorithms driven by Artificial Intelligence, Muck Rack will now send notifications directly to a user's inbox when a sharp increase in the number of articles is detected in any of the automated Coverage Reports they own or subscribe to.
How does this work?
Our Artificial Intelligence (AI) tracks news trends over various timeframes like days, weeks, and months. When we notice an unusual increase in coverage for a report, we call it a 'spike' and send you an email notification, helping you make the most of the heightened attention. Our AI adapts the spike thresholds as it learns, ensuring you only get notified about the most relevant stories.
The algorithm works by analyzing user-curated Coverage Reports, checking for deviations from normal coverage levels, and sending an email if it's significantly higher than usual, all within 24 hours.
Turn Spike Notifications ON or OFF
You can turn these notifications ON or OFF by using the following steps:
From your Organization Settings, navigate to the Notifications section at the bottom and select the toggle button next to Coverage Report spike emails.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Question | Answer |
How do Coverage Report Spike Notifications work? | Muck Rack’s platform has millions of user-curated Coverage Reports that allow us to determine whether fluctuations in coverage might be indicative of an underlying event or increase in interest by analyzing the volume and frequency of coverage, as well as controlling for any cyclical trends (e.g. weekly, quarterly, yearly, etc.).
When Muck Rack’s algorithms determine that the coverage is sufficiently above what's been observed to be typical for the report, an email will be sent within 24 hours. |
Can I set up spike notifications for specific Coverage Reports? | At this time, you are not able to select specific Coverage Reports you'd like to receive notifications for. If toggled ON, spike notifications will be sent for all coverage reports. |
How does Muck Rack define a Spike in coverage? | We understand that news can ebb and flow, so we’ve trained our AI to analyze trends over several different timeframes like days, weeks, and months. When we detect that coverage for a given automated report is far beyond what's typical, we call it a ‘spike’ and give you a heads-up with an email notification. This allows you to take advantage of the increased attention and take action. As our AI gets smarter and spots new patterns, the exact numbers and thresholds of our spikes adapt too, ensuring you're only notified about the most relevant and pressing new stories. |
Will this feature be available for Reports set to “Only me”, or only those viewable to the whole organization? | This email notification will only be sent to users who:
|
Is it possible for me to get several of these notifications in one day? | This is very unlikely. |
How soon after an identified spike will I be sent a notification? | Currently we analyze the coverage twice a day during when we tend to see large spikes. Roughly the middle of the day, or in the evening. This is subject to change. |
Are there any instances in which a user wouldn't be sent a notification for their report? |
