This guide shows how to place a bid on Municibid.
Before you bid: You need a free Municibid account with a credit card on file. Create an account.
1. Find an item
You can find auctions by:
Using Search in the menu bar
Opening Browse to see all auctions
Filtering by category or location
Open the listing by clicking the photo or title.
2. Enter your bid
On the listing page, enter your bid amount in the bid box. Your amount must be at least the minimum bid shown. Then click Place bid.
If you enter more than the minimum, Municibid treats the higher amount as your maximum (proxy) bid and only bids as much as needed to keep you ahead. For details, see All about Proxy Bidding.
A few things to know:
You cannot outbid yourself. Municibid will not raise your bid to meet your own maximum unless someone else bids or a reserve requires it.
If a bid is placed in the last 2 minutes, the auction end time extends by two minutes until no further bids arrive. This helps protect against last-second sniping.
3. Confirm your bid
After you click Place bid, review the confirmation page. It shows your maximum bid and the buyer’s fee that would apply if you win.
The buyer’s fee percentage is also shown on the listing under the current price. Fees can vary by price tier — see If I win, what fees will I have to pay? for how fees work.
Example: If you win an item at $100 and the listing shows a 9% buyer’s fee, you pay the seller $100 using their payment instructions, and Municibid charges your card $9 for the buyer’s fee — not $100.
When everything looks right, click Submit bid.
How do I know my bid went through?
Your status on the listing page (for example, high bidder, outbid, or high bidder with reserve not met)
A bid confirmation email
If you do not see either, your bid did not go through — enter it again.
