MuseScore groups are the best way to connect with other MuseScore users.

Join a group

Start with All groups. Here you can see all groups in the order they were created (most recent at the top); search for words that might be part of a group name, and join a group or request membership. Membership in a group may be at one of three levels of restriction:

  • Open: There's a 'Join' button on the right. Click that, and you're in!

  • Moderated: Click on 'Request membership'. After that, your request will be approved or denied by the group's admin(s).

  • Invite only: There's no button at all. Membership is exclusive to those invited by the group's admin(s).

  • Actually, there's also a fourth category: private groups. But those aren't even listed, and there is effectively no way to know that they exist—each is visible only to its members. These are ideal for educational environments—see How can I use Musescore for education?

Create a group

At My groups, click the Add discussion button on the right (??). You can enter the group's name, a very brief description below the name and a more in-depth mission statement lower down on the group page. You can also set a 'nice link' for the URL, the same way you can set it for a score (see Update your score). A series of checkboxes and radio buttons let you set the degree of openness or privacy you want. You can also upload a small image for the group's header and add a link to an external website.

A PRO access allows you to create an unlimited amount of groups. With a free account, you can create two groups.

Add/remove scores

See Sets and groups. Only you and group admins (see below) can remove your own score from the group.

Invite people

Click the 'Invite people' button near the top right of your group's page, and enter up to 10 email addresses and/or MuseScore.com usernames, separated by commas or line breaks. If the email address does not belong to a registered user, an invitation email will be sent out; once the user creates an account with the same email address, he or she will be able to accept the group invitation.

Admin privileges

Go to your group page and click the 'Members' tab to see the full list of group members. One member will be listed as the group owner; one or more members will be labelled as admins (short for administrator). If it's a group you created, you yourself will be the owner and an admin.

As the group`s owner, you can:

  • remove members, scores, and discussions from the group;

  • edit the initial post of any discussion in the group, no matter who initially wrote it;

  • promote other members of the group to admins (and withdraw that promotion).

Admins have the power to generally "police" the group by removing inappropriately added scores.

Admins are an essential part of a vibrant community and should be actively involved in the management of the group. If no administrator of a group has logged in to MuseScore.com for a period of 90 days, the group is considered to be abandoned.

Any member may request to claim an abandoned group by submitting their request, including a link to the abandoned group in the member support group. All requests will be responded to within 10 days of submission and members may submit only one claim request within a 90-day period.

If a claim request is approved, the requesting member becomes the owner and admin of the group, replacing the previous owner and admins, has the same responsibilities as the original owner and admin and is subject to the same conditions.

If a claim request is not approved, the status of the group remains unchanged.

In the case that a group has been considered abandoned and no suitable admin has submitted a request, or the topic of the groups is determined to be essential to the community, a group may be claimed by the MuseScore team who will assume owner and admin responsibilities.

Leave a group

If you've previously joined a group but now want to remove yourself from it, click the 'Leave' button on the top right of the group page.

To leave a group you are the owner of, the group's ownership must first be transferred to someone else. Please send the link to the group us via the contact form with the username of the user you're asking to be made the group's owner. After that, you can leave the group.

Delete a group

Currently, there is no way to remove a group yourself. Please send the link to the group to us via the contact form with a request that it be deleted.

Keywords: group, groups, "nice link".
