When publishing a re-release, is important to add the original release date to the release information. Not only does this ensure that the original release date appears on the streaming platforms but, also, because your discography on the streaming platforms is presented in chronological order. Adding the correct original release date ensures that your releases will be ordered correctly in the order that you originally released them.
How to add your original release date
To add the original release date, select the option "Yes" for the question: “Have you previously released this title?” and enter the original release date. Make sure to select this option and enter the date in both the release and track information.
You must also make sure that the year you enter in the Copyright and Recording Rights fields is the same year as the original release date.
What happens if you can't remember the exact original release date?
This is not a big problem, simply give the closest approximate date that you can.
When to add an original release date
Original Release dates should only be added to releases that were either released to the streaming platforms, or factory printed in physical form (CD, Vinyl, etc). If you uploaded your track directly a service such as YouTube or SoundCloud this does not strictly count as being previously published.
Potential Error Messages
When entering an original release date, you might see an error that looks like this:
"Your original release date should match your tracks original release date with single releases."
If you receive this error message, the likely causes are the following:
The original release dates on release and track level are not matching.
In either the release or track information you have not selected "Yes" for the question: “Have you previously released this title?” and added the original release date.
