Tips on how to avoid problematic playlists

We understand how difficult it is to find reliable promotion, and that often unofficial Spotify playlists will seem to have thousands of followers. Often these will have an instagram profile linked, where you can arrange for your song to land in the playlist. Unfortunately, these tend to be unreliable and can often end up being scams. Playlists can be boosted by bots and also have streams come from bots.

We’ve recently found a website that is great for getting more information on it a playlist is reliable or not, but just because something doesn’t stand out in the results, does not mean that it is a safe playlist.

This website is https://www.isitagoodplaylist.com/. Here you can just enter the link to the playlist and it will quickly give analytics on followers of the playlist and more. If you see any sudden spikes or drop sin the follower numbers, this should serve as a warning that it is probably using bots. Even if they have big artists in the playlist, this doesn’t mean the artist asked to be put in the playlist. The owner of the playlist can add whoever they want to make it look more official. They will often also display the Spotify logo in the Playlist artwork, so it’s really important to do your due diligence.

It is important to be careful, because these bots are often programmed to stream, but not finish the song. This really harms your ability to get into Spotify’s algorithmic playlists.

We recommend platforms where you don’t pay curators directly, but you use credits to get your music in front of curators. There is never a guarantee that they will accept it, but you are always informed of their decision. Any service that guarantees a number of streams, should be avoided, since it likely uses bots or other methods to artificially inflate streaming numbers, which will get you in trouble with the streaming services.
