How do I respond to a review, positive or negative?

For teachers: Advice for replying to any review that has been left for you on your account.

Responding to reviews left by students is highly recommended. It brings your public profile to life and shows the level of care and trust you share with your students. Consider the primary audience of your replies to be potential students and use your replies as an opportunity to communicate your values as a teacher.

Why should I add feedback to my review?

The reviews left by students on the platform are overwhelmingly positive. Occasionally, students, justly or otherwise, might use the feature to describe a negative experience. Regardless, responding to a review helps you appear present, caring and diligent towards your students. This creates a positive sign for prospective new students viewing your profile.

How will I know when a student has left a review?

You will receive an email from us to notify you when a student leaves a review for you.

Where can I add feedback to my review?

  • Click the "Your profile is visible" link at the top left of your page

  • Scroll down to the reviews section where you can “write a comment”

  • Press this and leave your response to the review

What kind of response should I add for positive reviews?

  • Most importantly, thank the student for taking the time to leave the review

  • If the review mentions your teaching approach, use this to communicate to your audience how important this element of tuition is to you

  • Consider adding how much you enjoy teaching this student

What kind of response should I add for negative reviews?

  • Thank the student for taking the time to leave the review

  • Remember, your primary audience here is not the student who left the review but future students who are viewing your profile

  • Think of your response as an opportunity to present the responsibility and care you put into your teaching

  • Try to find some common ground with the reviewer and show empathy with their point of view

What should I do if I feel a review is abusive or untrue

Write to info@musicteachers.co.uk so we can investigate the review. We will contact you by phone to discuss the circumstances that led to the review being written and see how best we can support you in this. We will then contact the student to discuss it further with them to work out the best course of action.
