Guidance on disclosure certificates

For teachers: Safeguarding requirements - Enhanced DBS, Enhanced PVG Scheme and Enhanced AccessNI Scheme certificates

Updated over a week ago

To teach students on MusicTeachers teachers must provide us with a valid form of Enhanced disclosure which meets our requirements. The form of Disclosure a teacher needs to provide will vary depending on where they are based.

If you are a teacher residing in England or Wales

We require all teachers residing in England or Wales to provide a valid Enhanced DBS Certificate. This must include Child Workforce checks and be dated within the last 12 months. If your certificate is older than 12 months, it must be registered on the Update Service for us to accept it, and we must also have sight of the original certificate.

Don't have a certificate that meets our requirements? Click here for a new one https://www.personnelchecks.co.uk/music-teachers-dbs. If you wish to go to the recruitment process page of our website you can log into your account and reach that page from here.

Important Update:

Starting Monday 2nd December, the DBS fee charged by the Government for all DBS checks will increase. Therefore the price of an Enhanced DBS purchased via Personnel Checks will also increase from £54.00 to £65.50.

If you are unable to complete the DBS application process via Personnel Checks by Friday 29th November, which includes providing the required documents to them (click here to see the requirements) please wait until after Monday 2nd December to begin your application with Personnel Checks to ensure a smooth experience.

If you are a teacher residing in Scotland

Teachers residing in Scotland will require one of two new documents:

- Enhanced PVG Scheme Membership (if they are not currently a member of the Enhanced PVG Scheme)

- Scheme Record Update (if they are already a member of the Enhanced PVG Scheme)

Either option must be applied via our service provider Absolute Disclosure.

Please note - We cannot accept pre-existing PVG documents from applicants because they will not show us as an organisation with which the applicant works. This means we will not be informed of any changes to the applicant’s disclosure status.

Please contact us via email at: workwithus@musicteachers.co.uk to discuss your application and obtain the information you need to apply for one of the above documents.

If you are a teacher residing in Northern Ireland

Teachers residing in Northern Ireland need to present an Enhanced AccessNI Scheme certificate that includes the child workforce checks. This should be dated within the last 3 months.

If you do not have this certificate, please contact us via email at: workwithus@musicteachers.co.uk to discuss your application and obtain the information you need to apply for a new one.

FAQ’s

How do I upload my Enhanced disclosure certificate?

Once logged into your account, you can upload a photo/scan of your certificate directly to your dashboard

Do I need to upload a scan of the actual certificate, or will a screenshot taken from the update service suffice?

In all cases, you must be able to show us the actual certificate. A screenshot of your Update Service account summary page is not acceptable. The original certificate is the only place that shows the checks that were conducted as part of the disclosure process. Even if you do not intend to teach under 18's, you must be cleared to work with children.
