For teachers - help with setting your prices

Updated over 3 months ago

At MusicTeachers.co.uk, you’re in control of the fee you’ll receive for your teaching. In this article, we’ll go through how you can set your prices, create advanced settings for different durations and also explore the possibilities offered by bespoke pricing in the Trial Lesson and Lesson Offers tools. If you’re looking for advice on how much you should charge for your teaching, write to us via info@musicteachers.co.uk and we’ll gladly set up a conversation to offer you some guidance.

New to the platform? Set your prices on your dashboard.

In the price settings section of your dashboard, you can enter your desired fee in the Teacher Fee data field.

The system will then calculate the typical student price. You can adjust the duration to see the student prices for 30 and 45-minute lessons. The system will calculate the fees for the shorter durations on a pro-rata basis. For example, if the student price for a 60-minute lesson is £40, a 30-minute lesson will be £20.

Charging different amounts for different durations?

It’s possible to override the pro-rata basis upon which the system calculates durations other than 60 minutes.

  1. From your account, head to “settings

  2. Select price settings to open up the advanced settings.

  3. Click “edit”

  4. Press the checkbox “I want to charge different rates for different lesson lengths”

  5. Click on the “fee” column to enter a bespoke price per duration.

  6. Once you are happy with your pricing, click save.

  7. A pop-up window will remind you of our recommendation to give existing students 30 days' notice before you alter your prices. You can click OK.

  8. That’s it! You’ve saved your advanced price settings.

Add extra lesson durations?

We also support customised lesson durations. For example, a 20-minute lesson may suit younger children, or a 90-minute lesson may be a better fit for an advanced student.

  1. From your account, head to “settings

  2. Select price settings to open up the advanced settings.

  3. Scroll down and underneath the price section, lesson durations are shown.

  4. Currently selected durations are shown in blue. To remove a duration, press on the x shown in its corner.

  5. To add a duration, press the arrow of the drop-down menu to bring up the menu of durations.

  6. Select the desired duration to add this to your account.

  7. Repeat step 6 for as many durations as you wish.

What if I want to charge different prices per student?

We understand that you may wish to further customise your price for example:

  • Online versus in-person

  • Diploma student versus beginner

  • First study instrument versus second or third study

We offer this degree of flexibility in the Lesson Offers system. Here, the price of each Lesson Offer is entered by you to fit the exact context of the student. For your first lesson with a student, we recommend using Trial Lessons, which offers the same flexibility in pricing as Lesson Offers.

FAQ

If I go to my student’s home, can I add an extra fee?

Yes. In the blocks of lessons system, you can add a specific “transport fee” to the booking. You can assign a transport fee of £1 - £30, depending on how much of an additional fee you incur. Using trial lessons and Lesson Offers, teaching and travel costs need to be added together to form the price, they are not separated.

Why is there a difference between my teacher fee and the student price?

The difference is called the platform fee. Platform fees fund the marketing, safeguarding, web development and customer support areas of MusicTeachers.co.uk.
