Should you require further clarification or have any additional questions at any stage, your Personal DNA Specialist is just a phone call or email away. We provide you with direct contact details for personalized support.
How do I collect my sample?
There's no need to worry about the cheek swab collection process—it's simpler than you might think, and we're here to guide you through it. The key point to remember is that we're interested in collecting DNA cells from the inner cheek, not saliva.
Here’s how to ensure you’re doing it correctly:
Gently rub the first cheek swab against the inside of one cheek for about 20-30 seconds. If you can, try to spin the swab slightly as you're rubbing it back and forth. This helps in collecting a sufficient amount of DNA cells.
Once done, immediately place the swab into the DNA sample envelope designated for that individual. It's important to avoid contamination.
Repeat the process with the second swab on the other cheek of the same person, and then place it into the same envelope.
Remember, each participant should have their own separate envelope for their cheek swabs/DNA samples to prevent mixing and ensure accurate results.
When will I get my results?
Paternity or Maternity tests will take 1-3 business days after we have received your sample.
Sibling, Grandparent, or Aunt/Uncle tests can take 3-5 business days after we receive your sample.
Rest assured, once we receive your DNA sample, you will receive an email from your Personal DNA Specialist notifying you.
Troubleshooting
The swabs from two different people touched. What should I do?
The swabs from two different people touched. What should I do?
It's crucial to exercise caution during the collection process to prevent cross-contamination. If buccal swabs from different participants come into contact with each other before being securely stored in their designated paper envelopes, there's a risk of contaminating the samples. Cross-contamination can affect the integrity of the DNA on the swabs, potentially compromising the accuracy of the test results. To ensure the most reliable outcomes, always handle swabs carefully and ensure they are placed directly into their respective envelopes immediately after collection.
If your two samples have touched, please reach out to us to order a replacement kit.
I waved my cheek swabs in the air after collecting my samples, but the paper envelope still feels a bit damp. What should I do next?

No need to worry! Remember, we're collecting cells from cheek swabs, not saliva. You can think of the DNA envelope like a coffee filter; while water might seep through, the coffee grounds (akin to the DNA on your swabs) stay put and remain unaffected. If the paper envelope is damp post-preparation, simply place it on a clean, flat surface to let it air-dry thoroughly before sealing and sending it off in the mailer. This drying step won't compromise the quality or integrity of your DNA samples at all.
Allowing the envelope to dry completely is both a safe and recommended practice to ensure your samples are ready for shipping.

What if I put my FedEx Envelope into a USPS Box instead?
What if I put my FedEx Envelope into a USPS Box instead?
We understand the confusion and inconvenience that may arise from accidentally placing a FedEx envelope in a USPS box. It's an easy mistake to make, but unfortunately, it can lead to significant delays in shipping due to the differences between FedEx and USPS systems. Both carriers operate with their unique tracking and delivery protocols, making a FedEx package hard to track once it enters the USPS system, and it may take additional time to reroute to its intended destination.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We want to assure you that we are here to support you through this and will do everything we can to minimize the impact. Although it may take up to two months for your shipment to reach our lab, please be assured that the integrity of your DNA samples will not be compromised during this time.
To address this issue and continue with your testing process, we offer two options.
Option 1: Patiently wait for the DNA samples to arrive at our facility. We will keep you updated on any progress or changes in the status of your shipment.
Option 2: Opt for a Recollection Kit. There is a fee of $50.00 for this option, which covers the cost of the new kit and shipping. Should you choose this route, please provide the following details so we can expedite the shipment of your replacement kit. You will receive an invoice via email for the fee, and upon receipt of payment, we will dispatch the kit immediately along with tracking details for your convenience.
