A 2D barcode can be used to communicate information about the contents of an FBA shipping box. Unlike a standard barcode that typically identifies a single value, a 2D barcode can contain more detailed information about the products packed inside a box.
What Does a 2D Box Content Barcode Do?
The barcode provides box-content information associated with the shipment, helping identify what inventory is contained in a particular box.
This is different from an FNSKU/product label.
FNSKU label: Identifies an individual unit of inventory.
FBA box/shipment label: Identifies the shipping box and its shipment.
2D box-content barcode: Provides information about the contents packed inside the box.
These labels serve different purposes and should not be treated as interchangeable.
When Using 2D Barcodes
Make sure:
The box content is correct before generating the barcode.
The barcode corresponds to the correct box.
The barcode prints clearly and is easy to scan.
The label isn't folded around a corner or placed where it can become damaged.
You don't accidentally switch labels between boxes.
For multi-box shipments, carefully match each generated barcode with its corresponding physical box.
