Bring your family tree to life in a fun, interactive way! Family Flip lets you transform your Ancestry family tree into a personalized memory game. Choose family members, turn them into matching cards, and rediscover the stories that make your family unique.

Whether for family gatherings, cozy nights in, or as a thoughtful gift, every flip of a card brings smiles, laughter, and cherished memories.

Product Details

  • Customizable cards: Choose family members from your Ancestry.com tree to create 20–32 matching pairs.

  • Personalized photos and details: Each card includes the person’s photo, full name, and birth/death years. If a photo isn’t available, select from one of our avatars that best represents them.

  • Compact size: Cards measure 2.5 x 2.5 inches, perfect for handling during play.

  • Made in the USA: Crafted with care and attention to detail.

  • Free online version: Share a link so family members far away can play too!

How to Play

Family Flip follows classic memory game rules, but with a special family twist:

  1. On your turn, flip over two cards so everyone can see the faces.

  2. If the cards match, you keep the pair and take another turn.

  3. If the cards don’t match, flip them back face down.

  4. Remember card positions to improve your chances on your next turn.

  5. Continue taking turns until all pairs are matched.

  6. The player with the most pairs wins, earning bragging rights—and maybe a family cheer!

Tip: This game is perfect for all ages. Children will love recognizing familiar faces, and older relatives may enjoy recalling stories about each family member.

How to Order

Creating your game is easy:

  1. Go to Family Flip and click Continue.

  2. Connect your Ancestry account if it’s not already linked. This allows us to pull in your family tree information.

  3. If you have multiple trees, select the one you want to use.

  4. Choose the central person for the game. This can be yourself or a person you’re gifting the game to, perhaps.

  5. Decide whether to include this person’s ancestors or descendants.

  6. Click Preview Your Creation. You’ll see the cards generated based on your selections.

  7. Usually, your game will have 20–32 cards. If fewer than 20, you’ll need to add more to reach the minimum.

Note: Each card is printed twice to create matching pairs, so you don’t need to make duplicates.

Adding or Editing Photos

Photos make the game personal and meaningful:

  • If a family member has a photo in Ancestry, it will automatically transfer to their card.

  • To add a photo from your device:

    1. Click Add Photo → Add Photos.

    2. Upload the photo to your library.

    3. Click the photo to apply it to the card.

  • If no photo is available, select an avatar from our library. Filter by male/female and age group to find the best match.

  • Adjust the photo by clicking on it: reposition, zoom, rotate, or replace. Click Done to save your edits.

Important: The pink border around the card shows the area that will be trimmed, so keep key details inside it.

Editing Text

Make each card accurate and visually appealing:

  • Toggle the switch in the upper left corner to add or remove birth/death years.

  • Click on a name or date to edit: change the text, font, size, color, and alignment.

  • Ensure the text fits within the box. If it’s too big, a red outline will appear on the card. Adjust font size or style until the box disappears; otherwise, the text may be cut off.

Adding and Removing Cards

Customize your game to include all the people you want:

  • Delete a card: Click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of the card → Delete.

  • Add cards: Click +Add People at the top of the preview.

    • Your starting person and tree type will appear, but you can change this selection.

    • People are organized by generation. Click a generation to see family names. The camera icon next to a name indicates a photo is available.

    • Check the boxes next to the people you want to add, then click +Choose Person(s).

Final Steps

  • Review your game carefully before ordering.

  • Click Add to Cart when ready.

  • Not ready to order? Give your game a name and click Save. Your game will auto-save and can be resumed anytime from My Projects.

Sharing Your Creation

After ordering, you can share a free online version:

  1. Locate your order and click Show Detail.

  2. Under Ordered Products, click the orange Share Creation button.

  3. Copy the link to send to family or preview it yourself.

  4. You can stop sharing anytime.

Fun Idea: Challenge family members to see who can complete the online version the fastest!
