Zapier integration - exporting MyDocSafe forms with nested variables
Updated over a week ago

A general tutorial about how to export data via Zapier is described in this article: Zapier integration - overview. As explained in that article, your MyDocSafe webform has unnested variables, they can be easily mapped to a Google sheet:

In this article we cover a special case: how to export data that has sections and subsections.

To complete this task you will need to have your Google Sheet and Zap definition open.

First add your new section or subsection in MyDocSafe form. Make sure you assign names to the fields and sections.

In your Google sheet, add new column heading that you would like to start populating with new data that comes from the nested variables.

Then, go to your Zap definition and refresh the fields in the Trigger section:

The new, nested variables will appear in the trigger:

You can now map those new variables to appropriate columns in your spreadsheet. Head to the Zap definition, open the Action section / Setup action and click 'refresh fields'

The new heading will become visible:

You can now map the new heading to a variable in MyDocSafe form:

Launch the Zap and test it:

Voila!

Troubleshooting:

If your nested variables do not show up in Zapier, try this trick:

1. In MyDocSafe, open the form, click Preview and fill it out with data in the Preview tab. Then Submit the data.

2. Switch to Zapier, go to Test Trigger section, click "Load More" and pick the most recent Form.

3. Only then refresh the fields.
