TP-Link Routers Firmware Upgrade

Before you start to upgrade your firmware:

  1. Make sure that you have a stable connection between the router and your computer. It is NOT recommended to upgrade the firmware wirelessly.

  2. Back up your router configuration before upgrading the firmware

  3. DO NOT turn off the router during firmware upgrade

How to update my firmware?

For deco, you can update through the Deco mobile app. For all TP-Link routers (including Deco), you can go to the management portal to upgrade your firmware.

For Deco M5 and M9 Plus

  1. Go to your Deco mobile app

  2. Log in with the password you've set

  3. Select Update

  4. Wait for a few minutes for the upgrading & rebooting to be done

For all TP-Link Routers

  1. Download the latest firmware from TP-Link Download Center

  2. Save the downloaded file on your desktop (or somewhere in your computer where you can locate)

  3. Visit your management portal

  4. Log in with the password you set for the router

  5. Go to Advanced > System Tools > Firmware upgrade

  6. Focus on the "Device Information" section. Make sure the downloaded firmware file matches with the Hardware Version.

  7. Go to Local Upgrade section > Click "Browse" to locate the downloaded new firmware file

  8. Click "Upgrade"

  9. Wait for a few minutes for the upgrading & rebooting to be done

Back Up and Restore Configuration Settings

For all TP-Link routers

Backing Up:

  1. Visit your management portal

  2. Log in with the password you set for the router

  3. Go to Advanced > System Tools > Backup & Restore

  4. Click "Backup" to save a copy of your current settings to your local computer. A conf.bin file will be stored in your computer

Restoring the configuration settings:

  1. Visit your management portal

  2. Log in with the password you set for the router

  3. Go to Advanced > System Tools > Backup & Restore

  4. Under Restore, click "Browse" and locate the backup configuration file (conf.bin)

  5. Click "Restore"

  6. Wait a few minutes for the restoring & rebooting
