The feedback programme is for tutors on the Schools Programme. MyTutor reviews selected lesson recordings and provides feedback to help tutors develop their teaching and maintain a high standard of lesson quality.
Why does MyTutor have a feedback programme?
The feedback programme helps MyTutor:
Support school tutors with their professional development.
Help school tutors identify ways to improve their teaching.
Help school tutors make an even greater impact on their pupils.
Monitor lesson quality for the schools we work with.
Maintaining a high standard of school lesson quality is important because it helps us maintain strong relationships with schools and continue providing tutoring opportunities for tutors.
Who observes my school lessons?
School lessons are observed by MyTutor lesson observers.
Lesson observers are some of our longest-serving school tutors. They have completed a high number of school lessons on the platform, are currently teaching and have strong track records as tutors.
Are all of my school lessons observed?
No. Not all school lessons are observed.
School lesson recordings are selected at random. You may not have any lessons observed in a particular month, or you may have several lessons observed and receive feedback more than once.
We aim to observe a wide range of school lessons so that we can understand lesson quality across the Schools Programme.
How are school tutors selected for additional feedback?
As part of a school lesson observation, we look at whether you:
Have sound curriculum knowledge.
Are confident in your teaching.
Proactively build positive relationships with students.
Are passionate about your subject and committed to helping pupils achieve their learning goals.
If we identify an area where you may benefit from additional support, we may contact you with guidance to help you develop your tutoring skills.
We may also check back on school tutors who have previously been identified as needing additional support.
What does “need extra support” mean?
“Need extra support” means that we have identified an area of your tutoring where additional guidance could help you develop your skills and better support your pupils.
During school lesson observations, we look at whether you:
Have sound curriculum knowledge.
Are confident in your teaching.
Proactively build positive relationships with pupils.
If you are struggling in one or more of these areas, we may contact you with guidance and support.
Will I be penalised for something found during a school lesson observation?
The feedback programme is not designed to catch school tutors out or penalise them.
The main purpose of feedback is to support you in doing your best work and help you develop your tutoring skills so you can better support your pupils.
Most feedback will focus on areas for development in your tutoring. Rather than being penalised, you will generally receive guidance to help you improve your skills and further support your pupils.
If we identify a safeguarding or professionalism concern, we will follow the necessary procedures and processes.
Can I discuss my feedback with MyTutor?
Due to the number of school lessons being observed, we are unfortunately unable to offer an opportunity to discuss individual feedback in more detail.
However, we want to know whether you find the feedback useful and whether there are ways we could better support you.
If you have feedback or suggestions about the programme, please complete the feedback form so the lesson observer team can take your comments into account.
Can I opt out of the feedback programme?
No. School tutors cannot opt out of the feedback programme.
When we surveyed tutors, the majority of tutors who responded wanted us to introduce feedback so they could understand whether they were on the right track.
The feedback programme also helps us maintain a high standard for the schools we work with. Maintaining this standard is important so that schools continue to work with MyTutor and provide tutoring opportunities for school tutors.
Do private tutors receive feedback?
No. The feedback programme is only for school tutors on the Schools Programme.
Private tutors work in a self-employed capacity, so we are not able to provide personalised feedback through this programme.
However, all tutors can develop their professional and tutoring skills through the training available in the MyTutor Academy.
The MyTutor Academy includes a wide range of training modules, which are updated regularly.
