If you're not familiar with what a Product Detail Page (PDP) is, please read our Overview article before continuing.
Managing your PDPs can be a bit challenging at first, but this article will help you quickly understand and master it.
First, go to your dashboard and click on "Page Manager" and then "PDP Layout". When you first open this page, you'll see a table with the product pages.
Let’s start with what we believe to be the foundation for everything in this section the layout target.
Layout Target
As explained in the article introducing the PDP, you can have multiple PDPs, each one applied to multiple products or collections. This is set by the "Layout Target". There are three different types of layout targets:
Collections: After you create a PDP, you can apply it to a collection or multiple collections, automatically applying the "Collection" layout target.
This is useful, for example, if you have a sustainable collection and you want to create a specific layout for the products in this collection with a more green layout promoting sustainability.
Products: After you create a PDP, you can apply it to a product or multiple products, automatically applying the "Product" layout target.
This is useful, for example, if you have a big product coming out and you want to give it more highlight by creating a different layout for this specific product.
Default Layout: If you look at your dashboard, you'll see one PDP already created with this target. Imagine the scenario where you create two PDPs and apply each one to only one collection. All of your other products still need a layout to be displayed in your app. This is where the default layout comes into action, being applied and making sure every product in your app always has a layout.
The Default PDP can't be deleted because, as the name suggests, it is the pilar of your product detailed pages.
Other Actions
You also have additional actions to help manage your PDPs, such as:
"Status" - You can set a PDP to inactive and it will immediately stop being used.
"Rename" - Give your PDPs a name for better organization in the long term.
"Clone" - Instead of starting from scratch, you can take advantage of previously built layouts.
"Deactivate" - Remove outdated PDPs without deleting them.
