How to add breaks before, during and after a service

Block off time before/after a service, or free up a slot during a longer service's downtime.

Written by Joe Davenport

Before a service

This is configured per service and adds a 'Preparation' block slot before every appointment:

When booking manually, you can leave it out by turning off Include preparation time in the Other section of Complete booking.

Go to Settings > My Business, click Manage next to the shop, then Manage Services next to the staff member. Click the pencil (edit) icon next to the service and update preparation time under advanced settings:

After a service

This is configured per staff member and adds an 'Additional Time' block slot after every appointment:

When booking manually, you can leave it out by turning off Include additional time in the Other section of Complete booking. If the service also has preparation time, the toggle is labelled Include preparation and additional time.

Within Settings > My Business, click the pencil (edit) icon next to the staff member and update Block additional time after every booking:

During a service

This can be used for services like hair colouring where there is some downtime in the middle that you can potentially free up for another appointment.

Within Settings > My Business, click the pencil (edit) icon next to the staff member's service and update appointment pattern within advanced settings:

Note: The length options for breaks are determined by the staff member's timetable spacing - please contact us via the Chat button in your menu if it needs changing.

Suppose the service length is 75 minutes and the staff member's timetable spacing is 15 minutes, in the example above, the service comprises 5 x 15-minute slots (0-15, 15-30, 30-45, 45-60, 60-75). If the 30-45 slot is marked red as available, a booking at 11:00, for example, will have a gap between 11:30-11:45 for a 15-minute appointment:

TIP: If you want to replicate services from one staff member to another, use the Copy to another [Barber/Therapist] button (it shows your own word for staff, e.g. Barber or Stylist):
