What is the identity verification process?

Identity verification (KYC β€” Know Your Customer) is a legal requirement for opening a business bank account. After your BV is incorporated, you'll receive an email asking you to complete verification.

The process involves scanning your identity document (passport, national ID card, residence permit, or Dutch driving licence), taking a selfie for biometric matching, and providing personal details for anti-money laundering checks.

All Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs) β€” individuals holding 25% or more of the company β€” must complete verification separately.

Verification is typically completed within 1–2 business days. If additional documents are needed, you'll receive an email with instructions. Common reasons for delays include blurry document photos, expired documents, or name mismatches between your ID and your account information.

Tips for a smooth verification: ensure your document is valid and not expired, take photos in good lighting without glare, make sure all four corners of the document are visible, and ensure the name on your ID matches what you entered during registration.

If your verification is rejected, you'll receive an email explaining the reason and can resubmit.
