Network for Good knows you're busy - that's why our data specialists are ready to import your contact and donation records for you. Here are all the steps you need to follow to get that going!
1. Decide what information belongs in Donor Management
What information do you even need in Donor Management? Contact information for donors or prospective donors, special notes, and, of course, historical donation records, are all important pieces of information you'll want in your database.
NOTE: The Network for Good Data Import Team strongly recommends that you export or download all data from your former donor management system, whether or not you ultimately decide to send your files to Network for Good for assistance in the importing process. This allows you to have a complete archive of your former system, in the event that a field is overlooked during the import process.
We can import any Excel or CSV file containing this information. Your information might be located in the following places:
Another donor management system! (See the bottom of this article for instructions on exporting from other common systems.)
An Excel sheet you've been keeping on your computer.
Event records from Eventbrite or another ticketing service.
TIP: If you're just getting started and don't have information in any of these places, that's OK too! You can just get started adding contacts manually. Add your board, add your volunteers, add your friends, add your mom....trust us, you've got contacts!

2. Clean your records (this step is optional!)
It’s great if your data closely matches our template, but the template is only intended to be a guide. The closer your data is to the template format, the faster we can complete your import. If you cannot get your records to match the template exactly, do not fear, just go ahead and submit what you do have.

With nice clean data, the import should take only 1-2 weeks. If you don’t have the time, our team will clean the data for you (though in this case it can take up to 4 weeks), just go ahead and skip to the next step.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if I have fields that aren't included in the template?
A: Don't worry. Our data team will create appropriate custom fields for you. If they have questions, they'll ask.
Q: I don't have donation information for each contact. Is that OK?
A: Yes! We'll import whatever information you give us. Even if you have a list that's just email addresses, we can make contacts out of that.
Q: My contacts are in several spreadsheets...will this create duplicates?
A: Not necessarily. If you provide us with a unique ID to match up contacts between spreadsheets, we'll certainly use it. Any contacts with the exact same contact info will be merged automatically, and any duplicates can be easily merged after the import.
3. You're ready to upload? Send your files on over.
To upload your contact and/or donation files, click Yes, I'd Like to Import on the Donor Management dashboard.
TIP: If you already dismissed this option, you can always go to Contacts or Giving and click the Import button.
And then click Send us your files on the very next step. If you want to try importing contacts and donations yourself just click on Import your spreadsheet and follow these instructions. We're here to help you with that process if you need us. If you are importing from PayPal, you can do a self-import of those files using the Import PayPal files option.
Then, drag and drop in the files that need to be imported.
Add any notes or comments you’d like our data import team to see and then click Next in the upper right to complete. We'll contact you with any questions, and let you know when your data import is uploaded into your system and ready for your review.
