Overview and Functionality
Click tracking is enabled by default in your account. This process appends unique tracking parameters to the links within your campaign, allowing you to monitor when and how often recipients interact with your content. For this reason, we generally recommend keeping click tracking enabled.
To ensure accurate data in your reports, the tracking system must be configured correctly. If you experience discrepancies in your statistics, please review the potential causes and solutions outlined below.
Issue: Report Shows No Clicks
If your campaign report displays fewer clicks than anticipated, or none at all, it is typically due to one of the following reasons:
Click Tracking is Disabled: Clicks can only be tracked if the feature is enabled under Email Settings > Tracking. You can also verify and adjust this setting during the final step before deployment under the "Tracking" tab. A green checkmark must be visible next to the click rate option.
URLs Added as Plain Text Instead of Hyperlinks: Entering a URL as plain text into an HTML campaign prevents it from being tracked. Always use the link tool in the editor toolbar to create proper hyperlinks.
Clicks Registered in Test Emails: Clicks performed within test emails are excluded from campaign reports. To verify that click tracking is functioning properly, send a live version of the newsletter to your own dedicated email address.
Unsupported Link Formats: The tracking system only supports absolute URLs starting with
http://orhttps://. Clicks on email addresses (mailto:) or anchor links cannot be tracked. Ensure you always use absolute links.Syntax Errors or Typos: Even a minor mistake can break a URL, directing users to an error page. Broken links cannot be accurately processed or logged by the tracking system.
Issue: Report Shows Unusually High Click Counts
An unexpected spike in click volume is often caused by automated security systems (spam filters). Certain aggressive spam filters pre-screen incoming emails for malicious activity by automatically clicking every link within the message before delivering it to the recipient's inbox.
Technically, it is not always possible to differentiate between an automated security scan and a genuine click by your recipient. However, if you notice an exceptionally high volume of clicks originating from a single domain or occurring within a very short timeframe, it is highly likely the result of a spam filter.
