What does the status "Deleted Recipient" mean?

Why do your reports show "Deleted Recipient"? Learn more about GDPR-compliant anonymization and the deletion of subscriber data.

In compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), strict requirements apply to the storage and retention of subscriber data.

If a subscriber unsubscribes from a newsletter, generates a hard bounce, or is manually deleted, their data is automatically anonymized—provided the contact is not active in any of your other address books.

What happens during the deletion process?

  • Anonymization: All personally identifiable information (PII) is permanently removed from the database. Non-personal, purely statistical data is retained for reporting purposes.

  • Display in Reports: In your campaign reports, the contact will now appear as a "Deleted Recipient". However, the specific reason for their removal (e.g., unsubscribe or bounce) remains visible for statistical analysis.

  • Availability in Address Books: Since the record has been fully sanitized in accordance with data privacy laws, the recipient can no longer be searched for or found within your address books.

  • Restoring a Deleted Email Address: You can make a deleted email address visible again by re-adding it to your account or address book either manually or via import. However, this restoration applies solely to the email address itself and does not include any personal data. Furthermore, a restored email address remains permanently visible and will not be deleted again, even if repeated bounces or unsubscribes occur.
