Definition and Purpose
A Double Opt-In (DOI) email, also referred to as an activation mailing, is an automated message sent to users immediately after they sign up for your newsletter. The purpose of this email is to ensure that the recipient intentionally confirms their subscription. Additionally, this process verifies the validity of the email address, helping to prevent spam and unauthorized sign-ups.
Legal Requirements
To comply with legal standards (such as GDPR), specific guidelines must be followed when designing your activation email:
No Advertising: The email must not contain any promotional material, offers, or product placements.
Transparency: It is highly recommended to clearly outline the terms of the subscription. This includes informing the recipient about the frequency of the newsletters, the topics covered, and how they can unsubscribe at any time.
Creation within the System
You can find the Double Opt-In Mailing type under the "Automations" category. You may use one of our provided system templates or customize the design and content according to your branding. The most critical element is the inclusion of the confirmation link, which allows the user to validate their subscription.
Once created and activated, the mailing can be assigned to one or multiple subscription forms. After a user registers via the form, the DOI email will be dispatched automatically.
Important Note on Testing the Confirmation Link: The Double Opt-In link is dynamic and uniquely generated for each individual recipient. Consequently, it cannot be tested directly within the editor or via a standard test email.
How to Perform a Test Registration
To verify the end-to-end registration flow and the functionality of the link, please follow these steps:
Navigate to the respective subscription form in the system.
In the second step, open the hosted version of the form.
Submit a registration using your own test email address.
You will receive the actual Double Opt-In email containing the unique link, allowing you to complete and verify the entire signup process.
