Overview and Prerequisites
Personalizing your newsletter allows you to address your subscribers directly and individually. Within the editor, the "Personalization" button is available inside any text block for this purpose. You can utilize all previously imported recipient attributes as a basis for personalization.
Selecting the Personalization Type
You can choose between different options to dynamically adapt your content:
Simple Personalization: Directly inserts a single recipient attribute (e.g., first name).
If-Then-Else Conditions: Complex rules to vary content based on specific attributes (e.g., gender).
Frequently Used Personalizations: Predefined templates for quick implementation (e.g., standard salutations).
Once inserted, the personalization placeholder is visualized in the text block and can be modified at any time by double-clicking it.
Testing the Personalization
Since standard test emails are sent independently of your address book, placeholders are not populated with real data by default. To review your personalization before the final broadcast, follow these steps:
Navigate to the "Personalize Preview" section.
Define the specific attributes for a test profile.
Click "Update Preview" to view the text with the placeholders correctly rendered according to your test settings.
Technical Display and Syntax (HTML)
In the source code (HTML view), all personalization placeholders are enclosed in double curly braces. Standard system attributes, such as gender and last name, use English nomenclature (e.g., recipient.gender or recipient.last_name).
Practical Example of a Dynamic Salutation:
{% if ( recipient.gender == "m" ) and ( recipient.last_name != "" ) %}Sehr geehrter Herr {{ recipient.last_name }},{% elseif ( recipient.gender == "f" ) and ( recipient.last_name != "" ) %}Sehr geehrte Frau {{ recipient.last_name }},{% else %}Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,{% endif %}
