How Does the Manual Import of Newsletter Contacts Work?

Learn how to flexibly import newsletter subscribers via CSV, Excel, or ODS files. Step-by-step guide to manual contact uploads, including column mapping, DOI mailing, and list management options.

The manual import feature allows you to quickly and seamlessly transfer existing subscriber lists into your system. There are no volume restrictions on uploads: you can import as many contact addresses as needed in a single operation.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to "Recipients" → "Add Recipients" in the main menu.

  2. Select the "File Upload" option.

  3. Upload your data file via drag-and-drop or using the file browser. Standard supported file formats include CSV, XLS, XLSX (Excel), and ODS.

Configuration Options During Import

Once your file has been successfully uploaded, the system guides you through a flexible setup process. You can configure the following settings:

  • Control Data Transfer: Choose whether to import all data rows or skip specific entries.

  • Column Mapping: Precisely assign the columns from your file (e.g., First Name, Last Name) to the corresponding recipient attributes and custom fields in the system.

  • Clear Address Book: Optionally choose to wipe the existing address book completely before the new data is imported.

  • Group Assignment: Automatically add the imported contacts directly to one or more designated recipient groups.

  • Automated DOI Mailing: Trigger a Double Opt-In (DOI) confirmation email to be sent to customers immediately after the import to ensure legal compliance.

  • Set Contact Status: Define the global status for the newly imported contacts during upload (e.g., "active" for immediate newsletter delivery or "inactive").
