How Do I Allow Customers to Edit Their Profiles?

Learn how to allow customers to update their profile data using a recipient profile form. This step-by-step guide covers form creation, mailing integration, and the mandatory Double Opt-In process for email changes.

If you want to provide your customers with the option to review and update their personal information independently, you can use the Recipient Profile Form feature. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to set up and integrate this function.

Step 1: Creating the Form

  1. Log in to your account, navigate to the "Forms" section, and click on "Create Form".

  2. Under "Supported Functions," select the form type "Recipient Profile".

  3. In the second step, choose the desired attributes and data fields you wish to include in the form.

Important Note on Double Opt-In (DOI): The Recipient Profile Form must be linked to an active DOI mailing. This is a strict requirement to handle verification if a recipient updates their email address. When a recipient changes their email address, this modification applies globally to their profile across all address books. In the specific address book linked to the form, the profile will be temporarily unsubscribed until the recipient confirms the change via the provided DOI link.

Step 2: Using the Form in a Mailing

Once you have saved the form, you need to integrate it into your mailing using the provided dynamic link:

  • Default Option: Under "Contact Profile Page," the system's standard landing page URL is selected by default.

  • Custom Landing Page: If you have embedded the form on your own website via JavaScript, you can enter your custom URL (e.g., http://www.mydomain.com/profile.html). Then, select the previously created profile form under "Linked Form".

Characteristics of Dynamic Links: Because the profile link is generated individually for each recipient, it is a dynamic link. Consequently, this link will not function in test mailings. You also cannot use a direct static website link, as every recipient requires a unique, personalized URL.

The generated link will follow this structure: http://www.meinedomain.de/profil.html?n2g=eb47w1fn-johbkz8j-4f72k9ev-254

When a recipient clicks the profile link, they are redirected to either the standard landing page or your custom website. The form will open pre-filled with their current data. If they update their email address, the linked DOI email is automatically triggered to confirm the new address.
