What are Alerts?
Alerts in NewtonOne are the perfect tool for immediate notifications about important events you might otherwise miss. They are essential for effective crisis communication and proactive management of situations that could escalate into potential crises. Alerts keep you informed in real-time with instant notifications, ensuring you stay updated on relevant events when it matters most.
How are alerts different from Newsmails?
Unlike Newsmails, which provide regular summaries of information, Alerts are designed to respond to specific events, allowing you to act immediately. This feature not only notifies you about current news but also highlights content from the Archive that may suddenly become relevant. Alerts also inform you about unusual spikes in article volume, helping you quickly identify and respond to emerging trends or crisis situations.
How to Create an Alert?
In the "Alerts" tab, click the + Set up a new alert button in the top-right corner. This will take you to a setup wizard that will guide you through the simple process of creating a new alert. On the first page, you will name your Alert.
Here, you can also choose to base the alert settings on an existing rule by selecting Use an Existing Alert. You can then adjust the inherited options as needed. If you select Activate Immediately After Creation, the rule will begin running as soon as it is saved. Click Continue to proceed to the next step in the wizard.
On the What Type of Article Interests Me? page, you set the conditions that define what type of article the system should find. For instance, you can specify that you want to search across all topics for the keyword phrase "newborn cub." If desired, you can refine the filtering further with additional conditions, just as you would in the search form. On the right side, you’ll see a preview of the articles found that match the applied filter (going back 1 month).
After clicking Continue, you will be taken to the Notification Settings page, where you can choose when and how you want to be informed.
You can opt for regular notifications about new articles or set alerts for unusual surges in article volume. Here, you can define the conditions under which notifications should be sent. For example, this could be when a certain number of articles per day is reached or when there is a percentage increase compared to the median from a previous period.
At the bottom of the page, you can select the method of receiving notifications. The available options include Email, SMS, Mobile App, and Web App. Alerts will always be saved in the Web App, while the other options are optional. If you want to add multiple email addresses or phone numbers, separate them with commas or add them one by one.
Here, you can also adjust the language in which the alert will be localized, independent of your default user settings. The names of categories, metadata, and descriptions in the alert will be displayed in the chosen language. Note that this does not translate the content of individual articles.
Finally, click the Create Alert button, and notifications will start being sent.
