Check your Internet speed in Nexam

Test your connection’s stability and performance before starting an evaluation on Nexam.

Updated over 10 months ago

Where to test your connection

Before an evaluation, you can test your Internet speed directly in the Nexam platform:

  1. In the left-hand menu, click Validate your device.

  2. Click Start to run the Internet speed test.

This test measures latency, download speed, and upload speed. A colour code (green, yellow, or red) indicates whether your connection meets the minimum requirements.

Minimum connection requirements

  • Download speed: 10 Mbps

  • Upload speed: 10 Mbps

  • Recommended connection type: wired (Ethernet)

Optimal performance is achieved with a download speed of at least 30 Mbps.

Understanding the results

  • Latency: The response time of your network. Low latency is essential for real-time activities like exam writing and monitoring.

  • Download: The speed at which data is received. This affects document and video loading.

  • Upload: The speed at which data is sent. This is critical for auto-saving answers and transmitting surveillance videos.

Tips to improve your connection

  • Use a recent computer with the latest OS updates.

  • Prefer a wired (Ethernet) connection over Wi-Fi.

  • Minimize the number of connected devices on your network.

  • Restart your modem/router.

  • Close unnecessary applications and pause cloud sync (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.).

  • Scan for viruses or malware.

  • If latency is high:

    • Restart your device.

    • Free up disk space.

    • Disable unnecessary visual effects (Windows).

    • Restore your system to a previous restore point if needed.

What to do if the test fails

If your connection is rated yellow or red:

  • Apply the tips above to improve your network.

  • Re-run the speed test.

  • If issues persist, contact your Internet service provider.
