Why am I seeing "We couldn't verify your connection"?

Encountering a "We couldn't verify your connection" message on a self check-in page? Turn off your VPN, Private Relay or ad blocker, or switch networks, then refresh.

If you see "We couldn't verify your connection" when you open a check-in page, something on your phone or network is hiding or rerouting your connection. For security, check-in pages can't load through most VPNs and proxies. Luckily, the fix usually takes less than a minute.

1. Turn off your VPN

If you use a VPN app (like NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark or a work VPN), turn it off or pause it, then refresh the check-in page.

  • iPhone: open Settings and turn off VPN near the top. If you don't see it, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.

  • Android: open Settings > Network & internet > VPN and turn it off. The exact menu names vary by phone.

  • VPN app: you can also open the VPN app itself and tap disconnect.

2. Turn off Private Relay or Hide IP Address (iPhone)

These iPhone privacy features can also block check-in.

  • Private Relay: Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Private Relay, then turn it off or choose Turn Off Until Tomorrow.

  • Hide IP Address in Safari: Settings > Apps > Safari > Hide IP Address, then choose Off.

3. Pause ad blockers and content filters

Apps that block ads or filter websites can block the check-in page too. Pause them for a moment, then refresh.

4. Try a different network

Some work, school, hotel and venue Wi-Fi networks block the check-in page. Turn off Wi-Fi and use your mobile data, or join a different network, then refresh.
