Filter and save custom pipeline views for reporting and analysis

Reporting Segments allow you to quickly filter pipeline data and save those filters for future use. Segments help you focus on the opportunities that matter most by displaying only the opportunities that meet your defined criteria.

Segments can be created using filters such as tags, opportunity types, pipeline stages, agencies, contract vehicles, or custom fields.

What Are Segments

A Segment is a saved set of filters applied to a pipeline or reporting dashboard.

Instead of reapplying filters every time, Segments allow you to instantly switch between predefined pipeline views.

Segments help ensure reporting consistency across teams while also allowing personalized views.

What You Can Do With Reporting Segments

Create custom segments

Define exactly which opportunities appear by applying filters based on:

  • Tags

  • Opportunity Type

  • Pipeline Stage

  • Agency

  • Contract Vehicle

  • Capture Owner

  • Custom fields

Once saved, the segment can be reused at any time.

Set workspace default segments (Admins only)

Workspace administrators can define a default segment for a pipeline.

This ensures all users see a consistent, standardized reporting view when accessing the pipeline.

Set personal default segments

Individual users can select their own default segment.

This allows each user to automatically see their preferred pipeline view when logging in, without affecting other users.

Common Use Cases

Organizations use Reporting Segments to improve reporting accuracy and focus pipeline analysis.

Exclude pipeline inflators

Filter out opportunities that artificially inflate pipeline value, such as:

  • IDIQ ceilings

  • GWAC contract ceilings

  • Long-shot opportunities

This helps produce more realistic pipeline forecasts.

Exclude uncertain or early-stage opportunities

Remove exploratory or low-probability opportunities to focus on qualified pipeline.

This improves forecast reliability and leadership confidence.

Focus on strategic areas

Create segments that show only specific subsets of pipeline, such as:

  • A specific agency

  • A contract vehicle

  • A business unit or portfolio

  • A capture owner’s opportunities

This helps teams focus on actionable pipeline.

How to Create a Segment

Follow these steps to create a new Reporting Segment:

  1. Navigate to the pipeline you want to filter

  2. Click the Segments dropdown at the top of the page

  3. Click + Add Opportunity Segment

  4. Enter a name for your segment

  5. Select the filters you want to apply

  6. Click Save

The segment will now be available in the Segments dropdown.

Default Segment Behavior

NextStage supports both workspace-level and personal default segments.

Workspace default segment

  • Set by administrators

  • Applies to all users by default

  • Provides consistent reporting across teams

Personal default segment

  • Set by individual users

  • Overrides the workspace default for that user only

  • Does not affect other users

Users can switch between segments at any time using the Segments dropdown.

Why Segments Matter

Reporting Segments help organizations:

  • Improve forecast accuracy

  • Standardize leadership reporting views

  • Focus on qualified pipeline

  • Remove misleading pipeline inflators

  • Enable capture managers to focus on actionable pursuits

Segments are especially valuable during pipeline reviews, forecast calls, and capture planning.
