Solution - Technical Task Areas

How to generate and refine Technical Task Areas in Proposals V2, including AI generation, document selection, and alignment to the PWS or SOW.

Written by Matt Miller

Overview

The Technical Task Areas feature allows you to define and develop your proposal’s technical and management approach. Task Areas mirror the structure of the Performance Work Statement (PWS), Statement of Work (SOW), or Statement of Objectives (SOO), ensuring alignment with solicitation requirements.

Task Areas serve as the foundation for your Proposal Outline and Pink Team Draft.

Navigate to Proposals → Solution to begin.

How are Task Areas Created?

There are two ways to create Task Areas:

Option 1: Automatically via Document Package (Recommended)

If you started with Document Package, Task Areas may already be generated as part of the workflow.

In this case:

  • Review generated Task Areas for accuracy

  • Refine content to match your technical approach

  • Add or restructure Task Areas as needed

Option 2: Generate or Create Task Areas Manually

If you did not use Document Package, or need additional control, you can generate or build Task Areas within this tab.

Generate Task Areas with AI

Click Generate Task Areas to automatically create Task Areas based on your selected documents.

NextStage will analyze the documents and generate structured Task Areas aligned with solicitation requirements.

Generation may take several minutes depending on document size and complexity.

Select Reference Documents

When generating Task Areas, you will be prompted to select supporting documents.

Recommended documents include:

  • Performance Work Statement (PWS)

  • Statement of Work (SOW)

  • Statement of Objectives (SOO)

  • Technical reference materials

These documents provide the context needed for accurate Task Area generation.

Click Select Documents to proceed.

Create Task Areas Manually

  • If needed, you can create Task Areas manually.

  • Click Add Task Area to define custom sections aligned with your proposal strategy.

  • Manual Task Areas provide flexibility for tailoring your technical approach.

Expand and Refine Task Areas

After generation, open each Task Area to review and refine its content.

Each Task Area should clearly describe:

  • Scope and key activities

  • Tools and technologies used

  • Deliverables and acceptance criteria

  • Assumptions and constraints

This ensures your proposal reflects a complete and compliant technical approach.

Use the AI Assistant

The AI Assistant is available to help expand and improve Task Area content.

You can ask the AI Assistant to:

  • Expand technical approaches

  • Improve clarity and compliance

  • Generate supporting technical details

  • Strengthen alignment with solicitation requirements

The AI Assistant uses your selected documents and proposal context to generate relevant responses.

How Task Areas Are Used

Technical Task Areas support:

  • Proposal Outline generation

  • Technical and management volume development

  • Pink Team Draft creation

  • Compliance alignment with solicitation requirements

Best Practices

  • Use the PWS or SOW when generating Task Areas

  • If using Document Package, review generated Task Areas before editing

  • Refine Task Areas using the AI Assistant and manual edits

  • Ensure Task Areas align with solicitation structure and numbering

  • Validate completeness before generating the Pink Team Draft

Expected Outcome

A structured set of Task Areas aligned to solicitation requirements and ready to support outline generation and draft development.
