Managing Opportunity Custom Fields

How to add, edit, or delete Opportunity custom fields for your Pipeline

Custom Fields allow you to track additional information specific to your organization’s capture and proposal process. These fields can be added to your Opportunity Summary and applied across your entire Pipeline.

Custom Fields can be used to track information such as:

  • Capture color rating

  • Contract vehicle eligibility

  • Customer relationship strength

  • Pricing strategy

  • Internal review status

  • Any organization-specific capture data


Managing Custom Fields (Summary Template)

Custom Fields are managed through the Summary Template editor, which controls the layout and fields available across all Opportunities in your Pipeline.


Step 1: Open the Summary Template Editor

  1. Open any Opportunity

  2. Navigate to the Summary tab

  3. Click Edit summary template in the upper right

This will enable edit mode for the Opportunity Summary layout.


Step 2: Edit the Custom Fields Section

Locate the Custom Fields section and click Edit

This opens the Section Editor.


Step 3: Add a New Custom Field

Click Add field

Enter the name of your new field.

If the field does not exist, click:

Click here to create "[Field Name]" as a new field


Step 4: Select the Field Type

Choose the appropriate field type based on the data you want to capture.

Available field types include:

  • Dropdown

  • Text

  • Long Text

  • Number

  • Currency

  • Percent

  • Date

  • Location

Click Add field to save the new Custom Field.


Step 5: Edit or Remove Custom Fields

Within the Section Editor, you can:

  • Click Edit options to modify dropdown values

  • Click Remove to delete a field from the section

  • Drag and drop fields to rearrange their position

You can also rearrange entire sections using the drag handles.


Step 6: Exit Edit Mode

Once finished, click Exit edit mode

Your changes will apply to all Opportunities in the Pipeline.


Viewing and Using Custom Fields

Once created, Custom Fields appear in the Opportunity Summary.

Users can enter and update values directly within the Opportunity.


Legacy Summary View: Adding Custom Fields

If using the Legacy Summary layout, Custom Fields can be added directly from the Opportunity Summary.

To add a Custom Field:

  1. Open an Opportunity

  2. Navigate to the Summary tab

  3. Click Add Custom Field


Enter Field Details

Provide:

  • Field Name

  • Field Type

Available types include:

  • Text

  • Number

  • Currency

  • Percent

  • Date

Click Save to create the field.


Editing or Deleting Custom Fields

To modify or remove a Custom Field:

  1. Open the Summary Template editor

  2. Locate the Custom Field

  3. Click Edit options to modify

  4. Click Remove to delete

Changes apply across all Opportunities using the same Pipeline template.


Important Notes

  • Custom Fields are Pipeline-specific

  • Changes affect all Opportunities within that Pipeline

  • Removing a field removes its values from Opportunities

  • Only users with appropriate permissions can modify Summary Templates


Best Practices

Use Custom Fields to standardize capture tracking across your organization.

Common examples include:

  • Capture Phase Gate status

  • Customer relationship score

  • Contract vehicle eligibility

  • Proposal readiness level

  • Strategic priority rating

Standardized fields improve reporting, pipeline visibility, and capture management consistency.
