Invalid data type fixes

Resolve upload failures caused by values that cannot be recognised as valid Boolean, date, time or expected data types.

Written by Gemma Langley

These occur when a value provided in the upload cannot be interpreted as the expected data type, such as dates, Boolean values or formatted system fields, often caused by incorrect formatting, unsupported text values or inconsistent spreadsheet data.

Customer upload fix: Valid Boolean

Error message - String was not recognised as a valid Boolean.

Check that all entries in column AJ of the spreadsheet 'Contract.IsGiftAid' are either TRUE or FALSE.

If any are different, amend these as required and re-attempt the upload.

If you still experience the error, please reach out to our support team and request to speak to an agent.

Customer upload fix: Date/Time not valid

Error message - String was not recognised as a valid date/time.

Check that the following fields contain a date in the dd/mm/yyyy format:

  • F – Customer.DateOfBirth

  • W – Contract.Start

Date of birth isn’t mandatory so if it isn’t needed, leave the field blank. Entering any other characters can trigger this error.

Customer upload fix: Input string

Error message - The input string is not in a correct format.

This error means that one or more entries in the file aren’t in the correct format.

Check the File Format tab in the Guidance Template to ensure all fields meet the required structure. Common formatting issues include:

  • Amount fields being formatted as currency (e.g., containing a £ symbol) instead of plain numbers.

  • Sort codes containing hyphens, which need to be removed.
