Practical example
Client Marie Dumont calls notary Thomas Mercier to reschedule her property deed signing from 14:00 to 15:00 tomorrow due to a conflict. Thomas opens the event in Nora.Legal Agenda, clicks Edit, changes start time from 14:00 to 15:00 (end time auto-adjusts to 16:00), saves. The local Nora.Legal calendar updates immediately showing the new time. Within 3 seconds, the change pushes to his Google Calendar automatically. Marie receives an update notification email from Google Calendar: "Event time changed: Property Deed Signing - Dumont" with the new time 15:00–16:00. The reschedule is complete in 30 seconds without Thomas needing to manually update Google Calendar or send separate notifications.
Notes and limitations
Local-first: Nora.Legal calendar always updates first (even if external sync fails)
Last write wins: No conflict resolution – if you edit in both places simultaneously, last save overwrites
Sync timing: External push happens immediately on save (not batched or delayed)
Attendee notifications: External calendar (Google/Microsoft) handles sending update emails, not Nora.Legal
No edit history: No version history or audit trail of changes
Partial updates supported: Can edit just time without changing other fields
FAQ
Q: Will attendees be notified automatically when I change meeting time or details?
A: Yes, if the event is synced to Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook. When you save changes in Nora.Legal, they push to the external calendar, which automatically sends update notification emails to all attendees informing them of the change (time, location, title, etc.). If the event is local-only (not synced to external calendar), Nora.Legal does not send notifications – you must manually inform attendees.
Q: What if sync fails – will my changes be lost?
A: No, your changes are always saved locally in Nora.Legal first (local is authoritative). If external sync to Google/Microsoft fails (e.g., due to expired OAuth token or network error), the event still updates in Nora.Legal with sync_status set to 'failed'. You can retry the sync later from event details, or manually update the external calendar as a fallback.
Q: Can I edit recurring events to change just one instance or must I edit the whole series?
A: Currently, recurring events are edited as whole series – editing one occurrence modifies all future occurrences. Individual instance editing is not supported. If you need to change just one instance, your options are: (1) delete the recurring event and create individual events, or (2) edit in Google/Microsoft Calendar directly (which supports instance editing) and let changes sync back to Nora.Legal.
