Overview
Nowsta uses push notifications and SMS text messages to keep workers informed about important updates. Workers can receive notifications through either push notifications or SMS, but not both at the same time.
Push Notifications
Push notifications are alerts sent directly to the Nowsta mobile app on a worker's iOS or Android device.
Workers may receive push notifications for things such as:
New shift opportunities
Shift confirmations or updates
Schedule changes
Messages and other account activity
Other important Nowsta notifications
Push notifications require notification permissions to be enabled for the Nowsta app on the worker's device.
SMS Notifications
SMS notifications are sent as text messages to the phone number associated with the worker's Nowsta account.
Workers who are configured to receive SMS notifications will receive notifications by text message instead of through the Nowsta app.
Important: A worker can receive either push notifications or SMS notifications, but not both. The two notification methods cannot be enabled simultaneously for the same worker.
How to Check Your Notification Settings
iOS
Open Settings on your iPhone.
Select Notifications.
Find and select Nowsta.
Make sure Allow Notifications is turned on.
Enable the notification types you want to receive, such as:
Lock Screen
Notification Center
Banners
Sounds
Badges
You can also check whether Focus, Do Not Disturb, or another notification-filtering feature is preventing Nowsta notifications from appearing.
Android
Open Settings on your Android device.
Go to Notifications or Apps & Notifications.
Find and select Nowsta.
Make sure notifications are enabled.
Review the available notification categories and make sure the relevant categories are not blocked.
Settings may vary depending on your Android device and operating system version.
How to Manage Notification Badges
A notification badge is the small number or indicator that appears on the Nowsta app icon when there is new activity.
iOS
Open Settings.
Select Notifications > Nowsta.
Make sure Badges is enabled.
Android
Notification badges may be called App icon badges, Notification dots, or something similar depending on your device.
Open your device's Settings.
Go to Notifications.
Look for App icon badges, Notification dots, or a similar setting.
Make sure the feature is enabled for Nowsta.
Troubleshooting
If a worker is not receiving Nowsta notifications, try the following steps:
1. Confirm the Notification Method
First, confirm whether the worker is configured to receive push notifications or SMS notifications. Remember that workers can only receive one notification method at a time.
2. Check the Internet Connection
Push notifications require an active internet connection. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data to determine whether the issue is related to the network.
3. Check Push Notification Permissions
If the worker uses push notifications, make sure notifications are enabled for Nowsta in the device settings.
4. Check Focus or Do Not Disturb
On iOS, check Focus or Do Not Disturb settings.
On Android, check Do Not Disturb, notification filters, or other features that may restrict notifications.
5. Check Battery and Background Restrictions
Some Android devices restrict apps from running in the background to save battery. If Nowsta is restricted, push notifications may be delayed. Check the device's battery or app settings and make sure Nowsta is allowed to run in the background.
6. Open Nowsta
Open the Nowsta app and make sure the worker is signed in to the correct account. Opening the app can help refresh the connection.
7. Update Nowsta
Check the App Store or Google Play Store to make sure the worker is using the latest version of the Nowsta app.
8. Restart the Device
Restarting the phone can resolve temporary issues affecting notifications or the device's connection to notification services.
9. Reinstall the Nowsta App
If push notifications continue to be delayed or do not appear, uninstalling and reinstalling the Nowsta app can refresh the app's notification permissions and connection.
Important: Make sure the worker knows their Nowsta login information before reinstalling the app.
Important Notes
Workers can receive either push notifications or SMS notifications, but not both.
Push notifications are delivered through the Nowsta mobile app and require notification permissions to be enabled on the device.
SMS notifications are delivered to the phone number associated with the worker's Nowsta account.
Turning on push notifications on a device does not mean the worker will also receive SMS notifications.
Notifications may occasionally be delayed due to network connectivity, device settings, operating system restrictions, or third-party notification services.
A notification badge does not necessarily indicate that a new push notification was delivered at that exact moment.
Device settings and menu names may vary depending on the iOS or Android version and device manufacturer.
If a worker recently changed devices, make sure notifications are enabled on the new device.
If notifications are consistently delayed or missing after completing the troubleshooting steps above, contact the Nowsta Support Team so we can investigate further.
Summary
Nowsta supports push and SMS notifications, but workers can only receive one notification method at a time. If a worker is not receiving notifications, first confirm which notification method they are configured to use. For push notifications, check the device's notification permissions, Focus/Do Not Disturb settings, internet connection, and background app restrictions.
