How to Use a Crypto Transaction ID to Track and Verify Transfers

Updated this week

When making or receiving a cryptocurrency transfer, every transaction generates a unique Transaction ID (TXID or Hash).

You can use this ID to find comprehensive details about the payment, including the currency used, the blockchain network, sending and receiving wallets, and more.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Obtain the Transaction ID (TXID)

  • This is a long string of letters and numbers given by your wallet or exchange after the transaction is completed.

For example:

  • 49FGzHidGnYsSeiEwZCcHzNTsR8DnHN6TZr1DCrAidTSJAyS7dPT3Z5oLkyoNZdrwkDZtmxCNCgdjMNJwKHRZkcK

Step 2: Identify the Cryptocurrency and Network:

  • Check the currency (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT) and the blockchain network used (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum ERC-20, Tron TRC-20, etc.).

⚠️ Using the wrong network's explorer will not show the TXID details.

Step 3: Go to a Blockchain Explorer:

  • A blockchain explorer is a public tool where you can enter a TXID and view detailed data.

  • Ensure you choose an explorer that matches your currency and network.

You can find commonly used explorers below.

Step 4: Search for the TXID:

  • Paste the TXID into the search bar of the chosen explorer.

  • Press Enter to retrieve the transaction details.

Step 5: Review the Transaction Details

  • The explorer will show:

    • Date and time of the transaction

    • Amount and type of crypto sent

    • Network used

    • Sender's wallet address

    • Recipient's (receiving) wallet address

    • Transaction status (confirmed/pending)

    • Network fees

Step 6: Use the Information:

  • Provide screenshots or a direct link to the transaction page as proof.

  • Check for confirmations—most services require a minimum number of confirmations before crediting the funds.
