Here are some handy guidelines to get the best results when uploading CSV files.

For more details about uploading CSV files, check this article here.

  • File format for saving your CSV file

To ensure that your CSV data source can be uploaded, save it as a CSV UTF-8 (Comma-delimited)(.csv) file only. This keeps the file content and format intact during the saving process.

Avoid opening or editing your saved CSV file in Microsoft Excel before uploading, as it may change the column formatting. If you do need to edit a CSV file again, re-check the column formatting and save it in the above format again.

  • Include a Date column to get a daily data breakdown

If a daily breakdown is needed for the data, make sure to include a date column along with other necessary metrics and dimensions. If there is no Date column included in your CSV file, Nugit will automatically create a Date column and use the Date of file upload as the indicated date.

  • Consistent Column Names and Date Format

Consistency is critical in ensuring that CSV files are uploaded without any error. Once a CSV data source has been set up, any additional CSV files to be uploaded should have the exact column names and formatting throughout the file - any difference, such as capitalisation changes in the column headers, will result in an error in the CSV upload.

Likewise, date formats should be consistent throughout the file as multiple date formats in the same column will cause errors and data discrepancies in the file upload. In some cases, when a file is downloaded from third-party sources, multiple date formats are present in the same file. For e.g., both DD/MM/YY and MM/DD/YY formats can be presented as date formats in a single file.

When uploading additional CSV files to the same CSV data source, ensure that the date format follows the format of the file used during the initial CSV setup.

If you need to change any of the fields or add new data columns to your file, check out this article.

  • Only upload base metrics

Rates, percentages and other derived/calculated metrics do not need to be uploaded via the CSV as these are calculated on the Nugit app directly. You only need to upload the base metrics required for the calculation (i.e. for CTR, upload data for Clicks and Impressions only).

Common Derived Metrics such as CTR are already created on Nugit by default, but you can also use the Custom Metrics Editor in the Nugit Story Builder to create new custom metrics as needed.

  • File size

The CSV upload feature allows a maximum file size of 300MB, so ensure the file is within this limit while saving. Break down bigger files into multiple CSVs to upload them.

If you have CSV files that contain blank cells or empty rows, make sure to delete them to decrease the file size and processing time needed for your file.
