Approaches to setting up Numa when your business phone is a wireless phone

Numa is designed to be used at any business, no matter what type of phone is currently used. If your business has an existing mobile / wireless phone, you have a couple options for your setup.

Option #1: Use your existing phone with Numa

This is the best option for many businesses.

Benefits

You keep your business's existing phone number and get all the main benefits of Numa, including Numa Voicemail, missed call texting, Google My Business messaging, and more.

Any calls you miss on your business phone still get sent to Numa. Customers can either switch to texting or can leave a voicemail that is transcribed and sent your way. Meanwhile, Numa will get your business set up with Google My Business and other business messaging channels, consolidating all your conversations in one shared inbox.

Considerations

Any texts you send out to customers will come from a new, complimentary number that Numa provides. If you want to tells customers to text you directly, you'll have to tell them to text you at this separate number. At this time, Numa can't take over sending and receiving texts from a mobile number.

Setting it up

Follow the call forwarding instructions within Numa to make sure missed calls are automatically forwarded from your existing wireless number to the call forwarding number provided by Numa. You don't need to do anything special to set up missed call texting. For all other features, such as Google My Business messaging, you can follow the normal setup instructions in the product.

Option #2: Switch to a complimentary Numa number

This option is great for businesses that want to simplify their setup, businesses where most calls go to voicemail anyway, or businesses who would like to stop using a personal mobile phone as their primary work number.

Benefits

When you signed up, Numa assigned your business a complimentary Numa number for call forwarding and texting. You're free to simply use this phone number as your business's primary phone number, if you'd like. You'll have to update your business's phone number on your website, collateral, and anywhere else your phone number is listed (such as Google, Yelp, or Facebook listings), but the result is a low cost and super simple phone setup.

Once you've moved your business over to using your new Numa number, all callers will be handled by Numa. Customers can either switch to texting or can leave a voicemail that is transcribed and sent your way. Customers can also text you directly at your new number. Meanwhile, Numa will get your business set up with Google My Business and other business messaging channels, consolidating all your conversations in one shared inbox.

After you've made the switch, your mobile number is free up for personal use or - if it's no longer needed - your business can cancel the extra expense.

Considerations

If you go this route, your phone will never ring. All calls will go right to Numa. You can get back to customers by texting them via Numa from any internet-connected phone, tablet, or computer. If you ever need to call a customer back or need to receive a call, you'll have to use another phone line.

Setting it up

There's no need to do anything special. The only work with this option is updating your phone number in online listings and your business's collateral. Any calls to your Numa number are automatically handled by Numa. You don't need to do anything special to set up missed call texting. For all other features, such as Google My Business messaging, you can follow the normal setup instructions in the product.

Option #3: Get a new line or port your phone number

If you know you need to be able to regularly receive voice calls (the limitation of option 2) and yet feel very strongly about your business's phone number being the same as your direct texting number (the limitation of option 1), your best bet is to either port your existing wireless number to a landline or VoIP solution, or to purchase a new landline or VoIP number altogether.

You'll want to contact your current provider to understand your options. Feel free to contact the Numa support team if you'd like to vet your chosen plan before you make major changes.
