Numeral is happy to help you file and remit any outstanding tax liabilities you may have when you begin using our service. Whether you’ve already registered in a state and have past-due filings or are looking to register for the first time and remit for previous periods, we’ve got you covered.
If you’re looking to register for the first time, we ask that you have a liability start date in mind. During the registration process, Numeral will tell the state that this is the date when your liability begins. If you’re joining Numeral and know that you want to complete back filings, please inform our sales and onboarding team during your initial consults. Once we set a liability start date with a state, changing it can be difficult. In addition, this could delay your back filings.
Once this date is set and a registration or transfer is completed, Numeral can begin the process of generating your filings. Please note that we will always prioritize filings due in the current month, and that back filings are usually worked on separately. Please allow 30 to 60 days for this entire process. We understand that states may begin to send notices regarding these filings. If you receive anything with a deadline or an intent to levy, or anything of that nature, feel free to share it with our team, and we’ll be happy to prioritize that filing.
While penalties and interest charges vary from state to state and depend on the amount of time a filing has been delinquent, you can expect at least some amount to be assessed on these late returns. Some states may require you pay these penalties up front when you file, while others may allow you to pay just the taxes. In either case, Numeral is happy to assist with penalty waivers to help clear up an account, or get you a refund if you were required to pay at the time of filing. Ultimately, any remaining balance on the account will be your liability to pay, as these periods were delinquent before you began partnering with Numeral.
