Recharge
To understand how tax is applied to your Recharge orders, first determine where your clients are billed: through Recharge or Shopify. You can find instructions in the Recharge Help Center here.
Billed through Shopify: Shopify’s tax settings will apply.
Billed through Recharge: Recharge’s tax settings will apply. Learn more about how to set up tax collection in Recharge here.
Recharge supports tax collection in states where you have physical nexus and/or economic nexus:
Physical Nexus: To set this up, follow the steps in the Recharge Help Center (Settings > Taxes > Add Physical Presence)
Economic Nexus: Recharge recommends contacting their support team through the Chat Support option in your Recharge portal.
Loop Returns
Based on previous cases and Loop’s own recommendations, we’ve found the following Loop Returns settings seem to work best:
Enable the Loop Discount: This ensures that the exchange portion of the order is excluded from total value and tax calculations, as this would have already been reported on the original return.
Include taxes and item costs in exchange orders with a remaining balance: This reflects what the customer owes beyond the return value.
These recommendations align with Loop and Shopify’s guidance. You can read the full article here.
